Eveining lads and lassies,

We are off for a few days from the 13th of April and H.I.D. wants to go away for a short break. I am not one for caravans but am open to any suggestions as long as it is a maximum of 200 miles or 4 hours drive. Web site links would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Aviemore would be a good deal for you - lots of family stuff to do - funicular railway, Rothiemurcus reindeer, heilan coos, swimming, sailing. There's no end of accomodation, lots of golf i.e. Spey Valley, Boat of Garten, Kingussie, Grantown-on-Spey all close and only about 2.5 hours from Glasgow area. Courses like Nairn not far, also Loch Ness etc less than an hour away.
Don't know about costs but this Macdonald thing looks good, they do family lodges etc -

You could even pop over my way and play the mighty Ballater!! :D

Disneyland Paris?
We took the kids this time last year for 4 days. Booked cheap flights, transfers, park tickets and hotel individually ( as opposed to the package deal that they punt on the telly )and it worked out a lot cheaper than I had initially feared.
Kiddies loved it! ( and, if i'm totally honest, I loved it more)

You say you're not keen on caravans but I stopped in one last year for a weekend (freebie) They are a lot different now to how they used to be. I was quite impressed and not a bit like I was expecting.
We stopped in a site near Scarboro. If the weather is ok you've got Scarboro, Brid, Whitby and Hornsea retail outlet, all within striking distance. Flamingoland also, lots of national trust heritage sites and a few courses nearby. It is within the 200 mile you're looking for.

Andy,

How about York ? lots to see and do in and around York. We also did the Scarborough thing when my daughter was around your ones age. Hotel had a wee pool so we were waiting for the door to open every morning at 7am.

The Ambassador Leisure Hotel if I remember right.

If you do decide to take the plunge, i'm sure I can make some time for a knock with you if you care for one. Only an hour from me.
York is about 40 mins from Scarboro, traffic permitting.
