2 balls one player

I get sent a link to a video with a similar title - not good viewing.

Great practice for course mgt with two balls - for your second (approach) shots, hit one ball to get close to the flag, hit 2nd ball for centre of the green. See which ball scores best

I'll maybe hit a couple of approach shots if I'm out myself and have caught up with those in front, only if there is no one behind me that could be held up though. I don't see any problem as long as you consider fellow golfers on the course.

Nothing I like more than being sandwiched between a 3 ball and 4 ball group when playing on my own. Never push the guys in front but always a good gap to the group behind to allow me to hit more than one ball. Usually only on approach shots and more often than not practicing different styles of chips around the green.

longs it is a practice round then its not against the rules, and normally you would be a member as, not many clubs will let you play as a 1 ball if you are not. i do it a lot from tee to green seeing different ways to play a hole. it also means that you don't catch up a group in front so they aren't pressured, and also should keep you paced right to stay ahead of anyone behind. if i do start to drop back then i just hit one.
End of the day it will come down to etiquette.

I often play 2 balls if I am out on the course by myself. I find it useful for the practice.
I did this yesterday with a twist. Ball number one was played using which ever club was the most appropriate. Ball number 2 was played using irons (and putter) only.
Interestingly enough - I shot the same score with both!

Playing by yourself can be a little boring at times as well but playing 2 balls makes it more of a challenge and keeps you thinking.

but I wouldn't do it, if I was holding someone up.

Generally I have no problems with it and often do it myself if I am out on my own in the evening and I am catching the groups ahead.

I suppose that there may be an issue as to whether the person is a member or a pay and play golfer in that a member can use the course as much as they like but if you are being pedantic, someone who has paid has paid to play one round only in most cases. Again, I have no problem with it but I can see some of the more officious types taking umbrage at the fact that the person in question has paid one green fee but is effectively playing 2 rounds albeit simultaneously.

I sometimes do the irons only thing - but with a little twist - club I practise at the range with most is my six iron - so if I'm playing two balls I'll hit driver with one and six iron off the tee with the other - scores aren't much different at all

I like the Worse ball thing, or what I could do is if I duff it I take another, but only score the duff shot. So I can try and learn from my mistakes.
