Just back in from my first ever playing lesson. What a difference from the lessons on the range that I have previously enjoyed!

The difference between a range swing and a course swing is probably almost as dramatic as between a practice swing and a swing at the ball as discussed elsewhere on the forum. So the pro was able to get a much better indication of how my swing performs under pressure.

Then there is the course management assessment and advice, bunker shots, realistic short game assessment, tips, demonstrations, de-brief and advice on how best to use my practice times and which areas of my game will benefit most from a focused practice strategy.

I wasn't surprised to learn that, apart from a few minor tweaks to my iron swing, it's the short game that needs most work. The difference being that I now know why I am hitting the thinned chip or duffed pitch!

Driver was going like a dream though and only got outdriven by 30 yards or so lol

Definitely the best money I have spent in the short time since I discovered this fascinating sport and something I will definitely be repeating on a (fairly) regular basis.

The pro enjoyed it too as he got to go out and play the course!

It depends on the pro really, our pro is around the £60 mark which is why I haven't had one. If your pro has just suffered a stroke I doubt he will be giving a lesson any time soon, he may not play golf again. Maybe some one will correct me on that, I hope he gets better though.

£60 - Does he/she wear a mask and have a cape?

The local pro at my club only charges £20 for a course lesson! £10 for a 45 minute lesson, and all prices halved for juniors

Surely my pro is missing out?

£20 = 30 mins
£36 = 1 hour

Juniors get 30 mins for for £18 but he is an excellent teacher, worth every penny. Although I haven't had a lesson in ages because I can't afford it :(.

Sounds like you had a good lesson, £30 is excellent value too.
I think i would benefit from a playing lesson so my pro can see how bad my short game is and hopefully can sort me out.

Not sure what my club pro charges although to be fair I don't think there is much on the course management side I need to brush up on. For me it would be all about the putting and chipping (reading the putts better, picking landing spots and picking the right club for the shot) and to be fair we can do that on the practice green

Each to there own Homer, i must admit though when i've had a short game lesson on the range it goes well but as soon as i'm on the course i just loose it. I think its more of a psycological problem as oppose to ability.
