1st 18 tomoz with new swing and wedges.... oh dear haha

off to Beadlow Manor with a work mate for 18, this sunshine has given me the itch. I was going to avoid a full 18 until 100% happy with the new swing but what the hell, its only a game.

Lets see them new icy wedges bite :D

Havnt played at Beadlow Farm (sorry Manor) for some years (thankfully), the last time you needed a JCB not a putter on the 'greens' they were that bad.

Nothing has changed. I played this morning and the greens were dreadful

whats annoying is that overall it has the potential to be a great club, 2 decent courses if maintained, a decent range, good pro shop.

Obviously a lack of overall investment possibly. I didnt see one member of staff on the course the whole time we were out, just odd stripes of white stuff on the greens. The cpurse was also empty bar the odd group here and there, on a Saturday lunchtime with the sun shining!!! Quite worrying.

Yep the baron is a lovely walk up over the hills. Ive not seen a greenkeeper in ages. I wouldnt be surprised to see a lot leave this year.

judging by yesterday there probably isnt many left too leave!

some of the views were great up the top, also quite different as the wind really came into play which you couldnt feel down the bottom.

I also noticed the website news hasnt been updated for ages. The 2014 prices are out though £30 on a Saturday.... I will pass. Was £20 yesterday so not too bad but anymore than that is robbery.

This paragraph sums up my last place.

Played today at my new club and as we got back to the clubhouse area for the 10th - 12th there were loads of people about. My last place was always dead once the members had gone out early. The course was a wreak in places the bunkers full of gravel, very few green fees bothered coming.

Was a shame as there was a great atmosphere among the members but it was maybe a little bit of the 'Dunkirk Spirit'

Why? You write the stuff.

New clubs. Flushing it longer. New chipping method inspiring confidence = Chunk it round in 94.

Perhaps that's the honest assessment your pro should be giving you

Can I point you to the guidelines set out by MikeH. Third round of the year actually and enough good stuff in those to be happy with where I'm going but do resent your insinuations. Enough said as I don't want to hijack Gibbo's thread any further

•Golf Monthly is a magazine and website for all golfers - not just 'better players' and we seek to encourage all golfers no matter what their playing ability. Posts that in the opinion of the moderartors or administrators set out to belittle, ridicule or antagonise a forum member because of their playing ability will not be tolerated.

Dry your eyes man.

We got an email listing a all the work they plan to do this year, all very good but it failed to mention anything in regards to drainage.

I noticed a long ditch being dug up the left on 17 I think, is that for drainage? The problem is how much is in the pot for work and is there other stuff taking priority (in their eyes). If lots of members leave will they then shelve the current plans aswell?

Tough times ahead I reckon

Yeah i saw that ditch, not ure what it's supposed to do really. I played in comp last week, all main greens and drying out at last but still in very poor condition compared to other courses in the area.

Letchworth may well be my port of call next year, will leave this year as a hiatus one tho

me and a mate will be looking at letchworth in sept, if we go as trio maybe we can get that joining fee down to 0 :) if it hasnt gone completely by then....

looked at the webby, 0 for under 31's grrrrr

It wasnt that long ago that it was still 1200...last year they dropped it for a spell to get new members, currently at 500 but for how long? with subs at 1200, asking me to pay another 500 on top isnt going to happen! Mill Green is on my list and it gives access to gravely as a crown golf course.

good call, Mill green gets lots of good feedback from blokes at work in a society, I looked at Graveley (gym & par3 included) but my mate left due to being a mare getting tee times.

I was a member at gravely for a year, never a problem getting a tee time. My mate didnt like it that much though, mainly as it's pretty long off the whites. Mill green is a nice course, and they are usually running some sort of joining offer. Add to that I can play graveley in the evenings inclusive its looking like a winner.
