Just in case you didn't get this directly, here is an email I received over the weekend:

Good Morning,

My name is Mark Moore and I am the website sales manager for Direct Golf. I have been informed that you have recently placed an order or made an email enquiry with 118 Golf - http://www.118golf.co.uk/

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I’m afraid that 118 Golf have recently gone into administration. Direct Golf have purchased the remaining assets of the 118 Golf business and therefore control the 118 website from this point onwards (hence our name being on top of their website).

If you have not received your goods from 118 Golf and paid with PayPal, I would strongly advise that you contact PayPal and open a dispute to recover your funds. Alternatively, if you paid with a credit card then I would contact your card issuer and claw the money back as 118 Golf will not be shipping any orders or able to resolve any open issues and/or returns now they are in administration.

Once you have had chance to action the above I would be more than happy to help you out with a great deal on any equipment you may still require, so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or queries you may have.

Best Regards

Mark Moore

I know that it is all business etc but not sure how I would feel getting an email telling me that I was not getting my goods but that the company that had bought the assets would sell me the goods that I had already paid for. I know that there is no legal or any other obligation to fulfil orders but the email comes across as a bit heavy handed and callous

It does tend to prove that when you buy anything from anyone online that you need to pay by way of a recoverable method ie credit card

If you visit the 118 website it tells you the site is under reconstruction, the message is from it's PARENT company Direct Golf.
Although the e-mail may seem callous, it sure beats waiting around for goods your not going to get.

Email is always a difficult medium to get the information over clearly without offending.

At least they have kept you informed and told you how you can get your money back rather than leaving you to find out yourself.

On the basis that anyone who took the precaution of paying via Paypal or credit card will get a refund what else are they going to do/say?

I suspect that you would be even less likely to deal with them if they hadn't drawn your attention to the situation as soon as practicable!

As to the email's language; it will have been through the lawyers rather than marketing.

It's always a difficult situation when you have purchased 'assets' in this way - this could just be a marketing list and website code!

They certainly can't fulfill your existing order because they have no contract with you let alone the fact that you haven't paid them for any goods...

To me, it seems quite reasonable!

And the fact that there was an Email actually generated is another 'positive'. Plenty of other sites that go bust, and are bought, simply never make contact about the situation. Of course, it's in DG's interest to do this as apart from the obvious benefit of more contacts, they won't get anywhere near as many disruptive enquiries, and can simply refer to or resend the email for those enquiries they do get.

Agree that it was a good step to send the email advising of the situation, just would not have added the sales spiel at the end but maybe that is just me. Would not expect them to honour the orders but would also not have jumped in with a sales pitch at the end. As many have said, emails are awkward in that they are open to many different was of reading and I read this less as less of a sympathetic update and more as a marketing mail but that may just be me

I have had nothing but hassle with each and every transaction I've had with 118 golf event though they are based locally. To that extent I've mixed feelings and on one hand think it was inevitable. Every time I ordered the website said in stock. Each time, I'd call and they'd say they had to order the item in, so clearly not in stock as indicated. On the other hand if a company has gone bust, peoples livelihoods will be affected and hope they find something soon

That will explain why wor lass didn't receive the stuff she bought for me for Christmas, luckily she had used Paypal and managed to get a full refund.

Used them once years ago, waited about two weeks, no delivery, no response to my emails, so cancelled the order and got my money back. Seemed to specialise in selling goods they did not have in stock.

No surprise to me they have gone into administration.

That's what happens when you're a crap company that can't get anything right and offer appalling customer service. Glad they went under tbh
