I had a lesson today and asked for some pointers about my game from 100 yards in. From this distance I think I should be hitting the green more often than not - sadly I'm missing more often than not! :(

Anyway, it seems that if I make a swing with the club with the ball in the way my contact is good but quite often left and long. If I try to 'hit' the ball I sent it right and likely short.

So, the pro gave me a check over about alignment and ball position and made only very minor adjustments. He advised that I try generating pressure on myself in friendly rounds by expecting to hit the green and when missed take some form on penalty like dropping in a bunker.

Also when on the range work on a tighter dispersion with the shorter clubs.

So, what other drills do any of you use down at the range to hone the 100 yard in skills? Or do you practice this more on the course? All suggestions welcome - I'm prepared to give anything a try! :)

With my 54 and PW I practise hitting the 100y and then coming shorter I use PW, 54 and 58 and practise hitting different flags and markers that are all 100y and in. That way if I need a lower ball flight due to overhanging trees I can drop to the PW and also if I need a really soft landing I can hit the 58. It just gives me options on the course to be flexible and familiar with a larger variety of shots for whatever the situation dictates.

The wind often comes across our range so I do try and practise in that too for them punch shots and trying to hit the markers.

All this practise 'should' make my short game stronger....

We have a 100 yard flag at our range with two bushes placed a greens width apart. I never take all my wedges to the range, but I do practice full and 3/4 and 1/2 shots with whatever I take.
I then use my simple system to do the distances on the course.
What I tend to notice is patterns emerging and concentrate much more on the face than my swing or whatever. Despite my gentle out-in path, I find it hard to really slice no matter how much I weaken my grip, so on the course I just relax, and try not to "turn it over".
If you're pulling it long/left or leaving the face open short/right, I'd say keep working on it and listen to your pro. My pro noticed some weird stuff on my setup and bobmac recommended I practised choking down and stuff more often.
