£500 for the headcover, how much did the putter cost?

And the answer is £12,000!

My friend and I got into conversation with a guy at the PGA Academy at The Belfry regarding his PXG woods and the talk extended to the full contents of his bag.

He finally showed us his putter.

Apparently milled by Mr Cameron himself using German Stainless Steel at a cost of £12,000 and the custom made headcover was a further £500.

And it didn't include a guarantee that the user would never miss another four footer.

Unbloodybelievable!

You normally get head covers supplied with the ones Scotty Cameron sells on his site. He releases around 8 to 10 every Wednesday on his site, prices range from $2000 to $10000, I’ve never seen one not come with a headcover.

They do make lovely putters. Some seriously pricey collectable ones out there.

Difficult for it to be collectable when it has been produced to a customer's individual specifications and requirements.

It would seem that Scotty Cameron is on a higher hourly rate than a brain surgeon.

Seeing what people spend on cars I can guess why someone might buy these putters. Overheard a conversation today between parents regarding the “aggressiveness” of the styling being very important and they were glad they paid extra for it!

I can’t understand that myself because I just see cars as A-B and nothing else.

Crazy thing was they were saying it was the first time they had taken their 6 year old to soft play!

I would rather cheap out on the car (except safety of course) and treat the kids than spend more on a car and not take them fun places.

What someone spends their money on is up to them.

However, based upon the cost of materials and the man hours required to produce it I struggle to see any value at that price.

It's a lot down to peer status, if Scotty Cameron putters were suddenly considered a bit naff then prices would plummet.

I'd never want one just because they're so fashionable, much sooner turn up with a piece of old junk that nobody has ever heard of.
No predictable replies please.;)

I once won one (a SC I mean - a Newport (2?) I seem to remember it was called) about 5-10 years ago in our Pro's raffle that retailed in his shop for a paltry £310.

After getting an armed escort to see me home I carefully set it up on a pedestal and looked at it in awe as I drooled all over my Primark polo shirt. It looked absolutely fantastic, beautifully milled black head and those iconic three red dots on the back etc. Johnny, WHAT-A-PIECE-Of-KIT, I thought.

Anyway I had a few putts with it on the carpet - taking care to leave the cellophane on. Much to my astonishment it seemed to putt no more accurately or indeed better than my then Ping Sedona blade.

I got Securicor to see me back to the club safely next week and chopped it in for £290 which I used to part-fund a new set of irons.

Some may well see me as something of a philistine in light of this shameful admission but I can honestly say that I have no regrets.

Scottys are beautifully made bits of kit but I've never found one I get on with despite several attempts so I wouldn't waste my money on one.

I agree that they are well made, I have owned several over the years, but £12,000.

I'd always been in the same boat never saw the appeal simply because I couldn't get on with one. Then discovered mine in a bargain bucket at AG at time of their troubles and never turned back. Paid a princely sum of £67 and already had offers over £150 for it. It's never being sold though absolutely love it.

Nor me. I went to a GM event at Silvermere a few years back when they were releasing some new putters (Futura range??) and they also had their classic blade models and to be honest while they were a nice feel I felt a) the grips seemed very cheap feeling in my hands and b) and I couldn't hole anything more than I would have done with my own model.

The one I won looked beautiful and was undoubtedly well made, but it performed its intended function (for me) no better than my then current putter.

That’s why I never kept it.

My current putter, only my second serious one ever, is an original TM Ghost Spider bought from a mate cost me 6 bottles of ALDI wine.

Not quite £12,000 👀

Tour Scotty's are nothing like the Scotty’s you buy in your pro shop.
The best putters you can get your hands on.

I've had quite a few scottys over the years including a circle t that was used by a European tour player. They are no better than any other brand of putters in my opinion, just good quality milled putters but lots of brands can claim they make putters that are good quality. I would buy another if I happened to putt the best with that out of the ones I liked and I was in the market though wouldn't buy one just for the sake of having a scotty because there is no value in that to me.
