I was in Turkey for 2 weeks and had a wonderful holiday and was glad to be heading home because it had been 51*C (123*F) for the last three days and was stupid hot. However on entering Dalaman airport we were instructed to enter the metal detector area just inside the front door and dispose of any fluids over 100ml. We did so as not to upset men with guns and that was when I realised we had be taken for mugs. The female customs officer told my wife her perfume was more than 100ml but it says 100ml on the label so the woman then sprayed her and 2 female colleagues with generous amounts of expensive perfume. The guys I had took my watch off and had a good discussion about that too and even asked how much in Turkish Lira it cost.

We got to the food hall for some cold drinks and a snack for OJ only to be met with the most exorbitant prices I have ever come across for every day items.

OJ got a Happy Meal = £7.50
Me and Mrs Mad got some chicken strips and fries from KFC = £9.75
A can of coke was £3.50

We could have had a Pizza Hut medium pizza for £24
A tube of Pringles for £8.00
Big Mac meal for £12

I am afraid this has moved our search for next years holiday away from Turkey due to them being a shower of robbing bar stewards.

Don't go to Tunisia then!

Food and drink is cheap all over the place - in the airport, 2 minging ham sandwiches, 2 bottles of water - £20, Snicker and Bounty - £7.

Think the guy made up prices on the spot!

51 degrees and £24 pizzas - you've just reminded me why I hate airports and holiday in the UK these days. :(

The thought of airports with 2 little uns fills me with dread. Bad enough with just me and the Mrs never mind kids.
Remember getting delayed at Pisa airport for about 4 hours a few years ago - no seats, no aircon, felt like a refugee.

Salzburg airport was doing the same on a recent trip on drink and food - not allowed to take any liquid through, they turn heating way up, crowd everyone in like sheep with not enough seats, delay the flight 2 hours then hope you'll buy their food and bottled water at a 2000% mark up. Yeah right!
Oh and in Salzburg when you go there on a skiing holiday the skis all come out separately from the normal luggage on a little train trolley carrier thing and are not offloaded by airport staff. What then follows is a free for all with everyone trying to grab their skis and boards off the trolleys - it's quite comical to watch as human nature takes over, anarchy, and the whole thing descends into a giant scrum.

Airports are abyssmal places. Customer care is non-existant.

Grrrrr!

Be down to Largs next year then Andy! :D ;)

Slight opposite experience for me in Bordeaux ariport last week. There was a delay of at least 2 hours so was actively encouraged to not gothrough security and was pointed in the direction of a couple of nearby bars and restaurants where you could get some reasonably priced food and drink (they even called someone over who spoke decent english to make sure that I understood)
