    Provisional Ball useage

Hi - need a rule expert please to adjudicate!:) Can you let us know what the rule is in the following situation.... Player hits errant tee shot, dictating that he takes a provisional, as he fears his first ball may be lost. Then, on looking for his original ball, he finds it, but it is...

(Sorry this has been done to death) The solution to slow play is slow play

How about having to sign out when you start your round, and sign in when finished? agree standard times for 2 ball, 3 ball, 4 ball etc. educate the offenders who consistently go over time, and for those who don't improve start to penalise them.

    golf verus football

if I had studied sport, I would have loved to investigate the relationships between different sports eg a 11 second 100m is equivalent to a 5 handicapper, a snooker player who can get a 50 break is the same as a scratch golfer etc It would also be interesting to know which sports have the best...

    golf verus football

Was hoping someone clever might be able to come back with some statistically based evidence of what percentage are in what category, just for the sake of the discussion. I'm sure someone studying sport at Uni has done a study like this.....

    golf verus football

no problem, it was only supposed to be light hearted, and to alleviate a bit of boredom. ps - mickleson has a handicap of +5.2

    golf verus football

having played both sports to a reasonably low standard I was interested how a golf translates into football ability, here's my take on it for what it's worth.... +5 or better = premier league +2 to +5 = championship scratch to +2 = league 1 or 2 scratch to 2 = league 3 3 - 5 = non league...

    Chipping off mats

probably not for you with your handicap, but search for "shanking chips" on google, you tube, golf websites and the depth of information that comes back suggests to me, that, yes, shanking chips is commonplace.

    Chipping off mats

shanking chips is commonplace! Things that help are, in no particular order, with some working more/or less for each individual - strong left hand grip - ensuring you take the club head straight back, straight through and across - try pulling the grip through to the left after contact with...

Should I Be Shooting My Handicap?

This surprised me, now I understand the annoyance expressed by some of my playing partners! - at last things seem to be dropping into place for me and have shot 41,40 and 43 points in last 3 rounds, off my handicap of 22. They've cut me to 18 in the Sunday morning roll up. I guess this view...

Anyone been to the Phoenix Open?

it's one of the best tournaments of the year, and brings a passion and excitement to the game that is lacking at other tournaments- it's not that every tourno should be like this, but there is definitely a place for a special, fan based tournament that encourages a bit of daft, and fun times. I...

    Why golf is frustrating.

Tash - couldn't agree more. Scored 41 points on sat, but on the 2 par 3's on the front 9, got a 5, and a 6 - one day, soon, it will all come together and there will be raising of eyebrows aplenty!

Gary Player - sinner or saint?

Tongo - I like the guy, even though he has the biggest dose ever of "small man syndrome" ever! domyou honestly think his practice stroke on 18 in the video is legal?

Gary Player - sinner or saint?

Lol. Not gonna do anything about it. (Of course), but that's the first time I've seen it, and if any one of us did that in any comp, or playing with our mates, I'd expect a penalty !

Gary Player - sinner or saint?

"Nothing to be made of it"??? - what, nothing to be made of the mountain of dirt he moves from behind his ball? Clear rule breach Imo.

Gary Player - sinner or saint?

watched "sporting legends" on sky the other night and got talking to my brother about how confident and unshakeable In self belief Gary Player is - he commented that there had been a lot of raised eyebrows about some of his practices and that there had been controversy around his 1974 open win...
