Thanks for the confirmation, the tree was only a rotting stump so about 2 feet tall, ball easily identifiable as mine.

    Ball In Tree

This happened today in a bounce round: Looking at the rules it is not classed as embedded. While on the course I had a quick look at the rules and then proceeded under unplayable ball procedures, dropped laterally within 2 club lengths. I could have returned to the tee or gone back in line as...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

I'm not sure if this was directed at me (the OP) but this is exactly the type of issue I'm trying to understand. Some on here seem to be saying that any discussion about The Rules is information and not advice. But it seems to me from some of the Decisions (8-1/16) that what you say and how you...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

Yes, I think I'm getting there. I still feel wording could be important though so it cannot be construed as 'advice' by anyone. So I don't think I'll be saying "I wouldn't hit it from there if I was you", but something more a statement of fact like "You are on the wrong tee".

    Teeing Ground and Advice

Sorry, just noticed this and I disagree. Rule 8-1 states: So, you cannot ask for advice as player. But you cannot offer it unsolicited as a player either. And that's critical in deciding when and how I tell someone they are about to break a rule, is that information only and always? Or is it...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

I like this reply, it presents facts and information to back the position, rather than just a statement of opinion. But... By telling a player he is about to break a rule surely you are influencing their play, you are influencing them to NOT break a rule and therefore not get a 2 stroke...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

Rulefan /Liverpoolphil You say it’s not advice. Fair enough by [B]Why[\B]? I’m asking for proof and nobody can show me how this is not influencing the player in determining their play, which IS advice. That’s the simple bit, if you can make an assertion you should be able to prove it too.

It's also common sense that a small white sticker on the face of a club isn't going to have much, if any impact, on your golf round, but tell that to Ben Crane: https://www.pga.com/news/golf-buzz/stickers-two-clubs-lead-eight-shot-penalty-ben-crane It's a very simple question: "you see someone...

That's not really applicable though is it? There is no referee though as was the case last weekend.

    Teeing Ground and Advice

I've read that over and over - tell me this: Player is about to play his shot from the wrong place and I tell him he is at the wrong tee position - how exactly is that not influencing the player in determining play? He stops and moves to the correct tee position based on what I said and save a...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

Okay, so if I say “I wouldn’t play from there if I was you” that could be advice. But if I say “you’re on the wrong tee” that’s factual but not advice. Does that sound about right?

    Teeing Ground and Advice

And that is my question. Rather than opinions please direct me to rules and decisions that say it’s okay to “ advise” someone they are about to break the rules if that play a shot. As I said above I DID stop him but how is he not gaining and advantage from my comment as he’s otherwise...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

I don’t really need an answer about not holing out. That’s already been covered locally and despite how obvious it may seem now, the three of us clearly didn’t know at the time what the procedure was when the green was waterlogged and the ball is on the lip of a hole filled with rain...

    Teeing Ground and Advice

I'm just reflecting on a recent round of golf and wondering what the right thing to do was. Stroke play Stableford competition and we were playing a three ball, two off yellow tees and one of us off the red tees. Honour fell so tee order was yellow-red-yellow and the two tees were a better of...
