Playing from wrong tee with an OOB

No, the assistant pro couldn't find it. It seemed like a classic golf club situation to me where the thick rule book was daunting and lots of people had different opinions, which just confused things no end.

Playing from wrong tee with an OOB

This happened to me in a medal a few weeks ago and I don't know we really got the answer bottomed out so am interested to hear what people think the situation would be. It's a normal strokeplay monthly medal and we're out in a two ball, playing off white tees. We get to the 9th tee which is...

Ball embedded in bunker face - preferred lies

Thanks. It was a friendly bounce game and I didn't score anything, so no consequences but it did set me thinking. As the bank of the bunk was not "closely mown" then I assume I would have to count a penalty stroke for the drop?

Ball embedded in bunker face - preferred lies

I was playing at the weekend and played a shot which embedded in the face of a bunker. I removed the ball from the face and dropped it in the bunker as there was no way of having the ball placed on the face and remain stationary. Was that correct? I had a skim through the rules and *think*...

    Recommend a push trolley

I have that quik fold one (Direct-Golf) and it's great. Solid enough, very easy to fold up and down and I love it.

What's the format of your club championship?

Ours is two rounds of 18hole strokeplay to qualify for a last 8 matchplay (unseeded). The club champ is the one who wins at the end of the matchplay. We play in categories (0-12 is A section, 13-18 is B and 19+ is C) for the matchplay and have a winner of each, but of course the A section...

    handicaps

I'm sure it's factually correct but doesn't mean that age is the cause of the lack of improvement. There will be lots of us who have reduced our handicap after that age (I've come down 5 shots) simply because of making a choice to work on my game in a serious way. That could happen at any age...

    Not Welcome

You'd be welcome with open arms - scramble team work best with a mix of abilities. A high handicapper who might chip in with one or two holes of a net birdie or eagle is always welcome, especially if the team has a low handicapper who can grind out the pars. Play - it's a great fun format and...

Strangest Thing To Happen On A Golf Course

I was playing on Gullane no.1 and we were on one of the tees nearest the beach. My playing partner had his ball on the tee and was taking his address when a West Highland terrier came running up onto the tee from the beach. We watched as the dog scampered right up to his ball and lifted it...

claiming a hole in match play retrospectively

Many of the things posted here can be solved by looking up the rule book (which I just downloaded to my iphone after the other post) BUT the benefit of it is that we all see the discussion and, more importantly the context. I have learned so much from this part of the forum simply by seeing the...

New to the forum with a couple of questions!

I use the Garmin watch and find that what it gives me is confidence that I have the right club in my hand, because I've got a fairly good handle on how far I hit each club. If I play without it now, I do have that little seed of doubt in my mind that the distance may not be right. It's not a...

    What is your 18th like?

Pretty tough off the whites althought it's only 360yd par 4. Water hazard down the left, 210 to carry it, OOB on the right and bunkers sat at about 220. Many players can carry the water but it's on the edge of my carry, so I find it difficult.

Moving branches to make a swing

I was playing yesterday and my playing partner highlighted that nestling into a bush or tree and moving (but not breaking) the branches could be construed as improving the lie. I said I thought it was ok as long as they didn't break a branch whilst making a practice swing. What do you think?

    Opponents asking for yardages

I am happy to share along the way but it really does become a pain if you're asked by a couple of FC's on every hole. Mostly because it's a little distracting when you're thinking about your own game. In my view, people can ask but should give a little thought to how often. On the point...

    unplayble in a bunker

I've always wondered about how to go back and decide where the original shot was taken. Is it acceptable to make your best guess as that spot was obviously not marked?
