your top 5 gems

Not sure if they are hidden gems as they are all well known but not the first courses u would think of.
Carne, Mayo
Nairn and Portnoo, Donegal
Concrawood, Monaghan
Donegal
Corballis short links course in Dublin.
Mike

Portstewart riverside
Kirkistown Castle
Bangor (thanks brendy)

Apparently ardglass is a brilliant course so hoping to explore it next year all being well.

I can only think of 3

Houghwood - very hilly with a links feel to it.
Prestatyn - superb links course at a very cheap price £20 a round.
Pennant Park - always in great nick and some great views of north Wales on the very hilly back 9.

If you get chance to play these I'd certainly recommend playing them.

In no particular order:

Royal Wimbledon
London Scottish (sorry Homer, but I think LS was established before Wimbledon Common, and as it was where I spent my junior golfing days, it will always be the No1 club on that course to me!!)
Cuddington
Cooden Beach
Reigate Heath (surely one of the best 9-hole tracks you will play)

and going beyond 5:

Betchworth Park
Tyrrells Wood
RAC Club Old Course

It's 26th on that list lol. Creeping up. How long a drive from me to there Chris?

We ayed at Blackwood at Easter in an ulster cup match and IIRC took about an hour and three quarters or so maybe two. Get Brendy organised and come down over the christmas hollybags

Dunno about playing with Brendy. Might need a confidentiality agreement signed first so there is no post talk of me hitting driver, 3 wood and still behind his tee shots lol

Or I may need to play off the reds to keep up with both of you.

I've not played too many "gems" that aren't already considered mainstream but I did play St Medan Golf Club this year which is the most southerly golf course in Scotland. You think you're driving off a cliff driving down to it and although its only on a tiny piece of land its pretty spectacular.

:D Your secret would be safe  ;)

Another vote for Edzell
Hopeman
Taymouth Castle (closed at the mo and I fear it'll be an overpriced "resort" when it reopens)
Hilton Park

Only four - I'm wracking my brains to much trying to come up with a fifth!

Don't know whether or not these count as a hidden gems, but,

1.Swinley Forest.
2. ?
3. ?
4. ?
5.Hankley Common.

Don't really know that many, maybe I should get out more!

Not actually played all that many courses compared to most I wouldn't have thought but some "lesser known" courses I've enjoyed are:

The Glen
The Braids
Gullane No 2 (and No 3 isn't bad for a fun matchplay game)
St Annes Old Links
Morecambe

i would go along with gullane 21pound on a 241 and not far behind its number 1 course

Prestatyn, NO NO NO! Terrible course in my opinion. I'd heard a few decent things about it before I played it and honestly thought it was a coup!

Downshire - very pretty very busy muni
Hainault Forest Upper - very pretty very busy muni
Hainault Forest Lower - follows a theme
Painswick Beacon, Gloucs - you play through medieval earthworks with stunning views for more than miles
Forest Fouesnant, near Concarneau in Brittany - just lovely
