Your top 5 all time fav. films?

Some really great films here and as i was reading down the list, I'm thinking nobody have mentioned my favourite, which is not surprising because it is quite old.

The Maltese Falcon.

First saw the film over 40 years ago and really enjoyed it, have since read bits about it and it stars and I'm just intrigured by it all.
Was in San Francisco a couple of years ago and bought the book, and I couldn't believe how good the film is to the book. Although there is one bit that is missed out about a visit to a restaurant called John's Grill which we had to visit when we were there. Apparently its where the writer Dashiell Hammett used to frequent.

Also what I like about The Maltese Falcon is that there isn't one scene that is wasted, or not integrial to the story, must unusual now days as bits are added to fill the time out.

My others:-

Casablanca, another Bogart classic.
Usual Suspect, best screenplay ever.
Shawshank (again I'm afraid)
Godfather 1+2.

To be honest I could name another 20 films for different reasons. :D :D :D

got to say this is harder than i thought to make my mind up,but eventually went with in no particular order.
Zulu
The Searchers
39 steps
Saving Private Ryan
Kes

Wow it's great to be reminded about great films we've seen and prob forgotten!! I just can't narrow it down to five so will list a few.

Shawshank - again
Star wars - the original 3
Finding nemo
Leon
Bad boys
Casino
Platoon
Alien & aliens
Gladiator
The goonies

Still thinking of loads more!

Enemy at the Gates is one hell of a film - you start watching it and get seriously hooked.

The one massive relief I have always had about Top Gun is that they never made a sequel. Apparently they used all the air footage up in the first one. Even though there are a fair few continuity errors in the film.

True story about Top Gun - when Val "Ice Man" Kilmer says "bullshit" at Tom Cruise - only he and the Director Tony Scott knew he was going to do that - he wanted the surprise from the others to show on film.

Saw the UK Premiere of "empire Strikes back"
- all eth star wars are great
but everyones said that

So, anything by Almodovar - e. Volver, and Tell it to Her,
sub-titled, but all very good. You need to be a little bit drunk i think.
Don't get them out from Blockbusters unless you like European films

Actually - really funny one was "goodbye Lenin" - sounds a bit european (whcih it is - it's in German) but it is hilarious

Damn you Dishy - thought I was going to get a clean sweep at my choices from no-ne else picking them

Cry Freedom
Killing Fields
Excalibur
Happy Feet
Mississippi Burning

Number 1 is and always will be:

Top Gun

my next 4 are in no particular order:

Catch Me if you Can
Anchorman
Forrest Gump
A Clockwork Orange

Oh, and I've always thought that Shawshanks was really overrated to be honest... :p
