Your no1 must play course??

I'm playing both of those in July having played there a few years ago.
Fantastic courses with stunning views, but my God they are hilly...............good excercise though!

Slime.

I shall be staying a couple of miles away from Askernish in a few weeks time when we tour the western isles.
I was planning to take the clubs and play Stornaway and Askernish but changed my mind. still dithering a bit!

Dont dither - TAKE THE CLUBS!

I just got back from a weeks holiday in South Uist, the second time i've been and I can quite safely say that Askernish is one of the best golfing experiences on the planet.

Did you like Liphook ? Just up the road from me, and they do a good twilight deal during the summer. Sure we could get a fourball together and give it a go. Played there a few times, and it usually has superb greens, although the fairways can burn out when dry. Not a problem at the moment !!

Yeah it's a lovely traditional track, greens are always top notch for the open in September. I work in Eastleigh, could get over there for about 5pm for an evening kickoff. Another couple of weeks and it will be light till well after 9pm so could be a goer!

Sounds like a plan to me. I am sure we can get another two forumers to join us.

You don't need to enter the ballot to get onto the Old Course. You can book the Old Course and two of the other St Andrew's courses as part of a deal through one of the local B&Bs. I played the Old Course in April 2005 (three months before the Open) and it cost £245 for three night's B&B plus a round on the Old, New and Jubilee courses.

I did that a few years back in February for just under £200, I'd do it again.

The one I'd like to play is Carnoustie and they do some kind of country ticket with some open qualifiers and I wouldn't mind getting that organised in the off season (more affordable) sometime in the future.

Is it Cypress Point that always seems to get good press too.

I've never counted the puddings at SGH but I have absolutely no reason to doubt you! I agree that SGH, Berkshire and Swinley probably do provide THE best lunches you will encounter at any golf course...period

Liphook is another one, at their scratch open you get coffee and bacon roll, 3 course carvery lunch and when you finish you get high tea. Bonkers when you have to play competitive golf after a huge lunch

I am an expert on the best golf club lunches. St Georges Hill is a very close second to the undoubted winner - Hankley Common. They changed their caterers a year ago and I have played twice there since and it is the best carvery going. For me anyway. The reason being that their sirloin roast is very rare - so good! Although I am surprised they don't have any complaints from philistines saying that it is undercooked! In addition, their Yorkshire puddings are brilliant and home made.

Contrast this with the out of the packet Aunt Bessie style Yorkshires that the Berkshire have the bare faced cheek to serve up!

Sunningdale also do delicious food and have a superb wine cellar too.

I am fortunate enough to have played most of the top courses in the south east so my choices are a bit further afield. The courses that I really want to play are as follows:

1. Pine Valley
2. Augusta
3. Cypress Point
4. St Andrews

I would also like to play at some of the Open venues I have not done yet and these are Carnoustie, Royal St Georges and Lytham St Annes.

There are a couple in Las Vegas I like the look of too.....
