Your no1 must play course??

The course that I most want to play is a bit sentimental and that is Beaconsfield. When I was young I lived down there and walked the course with my dad and grandad when they played (my dad was a member in those days). That was nearly 30 years ago and would love a round there with my dad and brother.

If I was going further afield, would love to head back to Mauritius to golf. Went there as a massive treat with my wife and never managed to get a round in but would love to head back with my clubs as I love the island and a couple of the courses were stunning.

I've never counted the puddings at SGH but I have absolutely no reason to doubt you! I agree that SGH, Berkshire and Swinley probably do provide THE best lunches you will encounter at any golf course...period

Liphook is another one, at their scratch open you get coffee and bacon roll, 3 course carvery lunch and when you finish you get high tea. Bonkers when you have to play competitive golf after a huge lunch

Did you like Liphook ? Just up the road from me, and they do a good twilight deal during the summer. Sure we could get a fourball together and give it a go. Played there a few times, and it usually has superb greens, although the fairways can burn out when dry. Not a problem at the moment !!

I'm going to go all traditional and opt for ST Andrews must try and get organised in sept and enter that ballot!

You don't need to enter the ballot to get onto the Old Course. You can book the Old Course and two of the other St Andrew's courses as part of a deal through one of the local B&Bs. I played the Old Course in April 2005 (three months before the Open) and it cost £245 for three night's B&B plus a round on the Old, New and Jubilee courses.

Can't remember the Lunch being that great at SGH. Course(s) was/were great though.

Best Lunch award certainly goes to Royal St Georges though - pipping Berkshire and Swinley (best pudds/cheeseboard). Woburn was pretty good too from memory - and, of course Muirfield (specially the Beef in Red Wine!).

Desperate to play Le Touessrok!

Not sure if that's a swipe or if you agree so I'll take it as the latter ;)

By all accounts the whole day/golfing experience is one to remember on a course that really needs to be thought through rather than the trend of courses/re-designs & extentions set up simply for big hitters to smash it!

SteveK.
I shall be staying a couple of miles away from Askernish in a few weeks time when we tour the western isles.
I was planning to take the clubs and play Stornaway and Askernish but changed my mind. still dithering a bit!

I think Royal St George's might just edge these three - but they are all great

In the UK I'd really like to play Celtic Manor 2010 course.

I was lucky enough to play the 2010 course 2 months before the Ryder cup, they were putting up all of the stands etc and you could imagine being one of those players. Best course I have ever played so far.

Or though when I took my wife back to see the sunday and the monday she wasn't best pleased with me telling her how I played each hole :)
