Following on from most overrated course thread. What course/courses are must play courses from your experience? :fore:

I really want to play all the Open Championship courses, 4 down 5 to go. Playing Muirfield in March next year as part of a pal's 50th birthday trip. Apart from that, just really want to work my way through the top 100 listings, already played more than half of them :whoo:

Crazy shout here but I'm going for this place.

That looks great - a few folk have recommended it but I've never looked at the website before.

Obvious, I know, but I'd go for the Old Course St Andrews - as much for the history and atmosphere of the place as much as anything else. I couldn't have been much over 15 when I played it with my dad but still remember it fondly.

Similar to the Craw. I am not going for one of the big ticket courses, but for where I learned teh game on eternal summer holidays

The par 3 6th. Tee shot over sea caves and the roaring Atlantic. Next stop is the east coast of USA...

The below quote from club website sums it up :

"With a par 3 that measures only 137m, what club will it be today? A short flick of a wedge? A fully struck wood? You decide!!"

I've not really played many big name courses so I have loads on my list:
Sunningdale, Woburn, Wentworth, The Open courses, Loch Lomand etc etc etc

Big courses, Open qualifiers and accessable to ALL golfers for me it's St Annes Old Links with a mention also to The Dukes at St Andrews.

Hidden gems, either Dunaverty or Durness.

seeing someone's pictures on here for me it's sawgrass

I know what you mean but a must play is a course accessable and affordable for everyone I reckn, Sawgrass for me doesnt fit that bill (especially as it's thousands of miles away).

That said im playing it next year for my hopefully 40

I'd really like to try and get round all 9 Open rota courses and Sunningdale.

I played the New Course at Sunningdale last autumn and I would be hard pressed to say it was worth the cost - it was a good track but, unlike others here, I much more enjoyed the West Course at Wentworth

I played West lanc's at the weekend and then Formby I am defiantly going back to Formby .What a course 18 hole's and not a weak one in there. Most of the Guys were saying that it's the best course of it's type they have played.

Saunton East, St Georges Hill, Swinley, The Berkshire, Hankley Common, West Hill, Bearwood Lakes, all on my list, but the course to play is the Old Course St Andrews. It is unlikely you will ever get to play at Lords, Wimbledon, Wembley, but you can play at the home of golf.
