Your highest Stableford points score?

45 points last year, with a gross 75, won the comp on countback lol, 75 is still my best gross score to date, hope I can beat it this year, thats my hope anyways.

I think you are confusing amateurs & professionals....as I'm sure you are aware it's a completely different game for them. Ryo was also a +5 as an amateur.......knocking your calculation to 43 pts. In my eyes a great round ....but this is to be expected from this calibre of players.
Keep on clocking up those cricket scores.
At least dick Turpin wore a mask!!

Of course it's a completely different game for them, that's why they can earn a living from it, but, it doesn't alter the fact that anyone can shoot a 'freak' round and score a silly number. Or have I missed something that only you are aware of.
Tiger Woods won the 2000 US Open by 15 shots, he didn't wear a mask.

Tiger was -12 for the week....so he averaged -3/day or 39pts/day now take into account his amateur hdcp of +5... drops him to 34pts/day. -12 under is not "freak" for him or any other pro on one of the tours. Stop comparing apples & oranges.
However tiger was certainly hiding behind a mask for a long time........you got that right!!

At least you can say you had half a day in the sun.........bottle boy

Fair point & well made, that was a poor example & I stand corrected.
I still stand by what I said, in that I believe anyone has the possibility of shooting the lights out at least once in their golfing life. I'm sure even you would not argue against that.
I just get the impression that you are a low handicap golfer who hates being beaten by a high handicap golfer using the stableford scoring system. Were you not a high handicap player at one time?
Just out of interest, what is your handicap and what is your highest stableford points total?

Slime.

P.S. Bottle boy........................................................

Tiger was -18 for the week. He just won by 12.
And if you worked out a CSS for the Masters that year he would have made many more than 34 points average per day.
Average score from those making the cut was 285 or (-3) and only 4 players bettered this.
So -18 that year at Augusta was a freak score. He was the only player under par in every round.

Par is 72. On a Major course it's not unreasonable to expect SSS to be 74 or more.
CSS could go even higher - to 76. At a CSS of 76 Tiger was nearly 9 shots under CSS per day.
OK these numbers are assumptions but probably not unrealisticly way-out.

Thx for that. I do agree that everyone has great rounds in them....it's just how we quantify a great round that differs.Getting 50 pts off a true handicap just doesn't compute for me....plus I would have to shoot around of about 60 to get it. I don't mind being beaten by a player with a higher handicap at all....as long as their hdcp is a fair assessment of their game.
In truth I hate being beaten at all!!

i think this line sums it up for everyone thats annoyed at people who score 50pts !

I think you'll find his four round total was -12, a 15 shot winning margin. The 2000 us open was cited. Par on pebble during pro tournaments is 71. I still find it hard comparing a pro score to an amateur one.
SSS & CSS are both tools to asses us humble amateurs not pro's.

Maybe if I ever become a very good golfer I will sympathise with your point of view, I hope I get the chance to find out one day!
We do, however, have one thing in common, I too hate being beaten. It's not so bad if I've played well & they've played better, it's when I play badly & they play slightly less badly that really pisses me off!
Unfortunately the freakishly good rounds are far, far rarer than the freakishly bad ones!

Slime the 'Bottle Boy'.

Enjoy BB. Soon the big freeze will be gone and we can all put our spikes back on!! I'm sneaking off to the costa next month......maybe I'll find the other half ofvyour round there?! Here's hoping.
Cheers

Compute this then!

my last 44 rounds average 15.8
my handicap is currently 13.4 and started at 16
Out of these 44 my best rounds are 45 points off 15, 43 off 14 and 48 off 14 (+3)
I have hit plenty of scores under 30 points. Far more than the good ones.
So what it the problem shooting a real good one and a couple of very nice ones now and again?
It the Stableford / handicap rules that allow me to do this. Maybe you opposed have never scored more than 40?

Not only that......but 43 pts off 14 brings you down to 11.9 & 45 pts off 15 to 12.3.
You home course must be Alton towers with that sort of roller coasting scoring.
Back to the hideout mate!!
