• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Your golfing attitude....

Generally the odd groan or grunt at myself, but I have become a much happier person on the course over the past year or so.

It has taken me ages to realise it is only golf

Summer and winter for me are polar opposites. I laugh my way round the winter course as its not the same game at all and no point ones to worry about.

im both lol, theres a time and a place for laughing at myself as there is for calling myself a few choice words :) rarely let it linger between shots these days

I've only finished a round without a smile once and that was due to an explosive incident between two playing partners who I had to stand between to avoid a fight.

I tend to laugh of the bad shots and always enjoy playing regardless of the result. My head sometimes goes down when it's gone extremely badly but I'll always find a way to leave the course with a smile.

Was thinking back today about Jason days awesome year and one thing that jumped out is his playing attitude. During all of the wins this year, the tv coverage only ever showed him smiling and laughing.

Big drive down the middle or big block into the wildlife, stiffed chip or duffel flop, he just always looked like he was enjoying every minute. When comparing to someone like Rory or Speith, they constantly self abuse after bad shots or those that haven't quite paid off.

So are you self amused or self abused?

I guess if your blessed with Jason Day's ability and bank account you would be smiling. If I have a bad day then try not to let it affect me and look forward to getting to the range, finding something positive and then looking forward to taking it to the course Then it dont work and get completely hacked off and back to the range and so it continues.

Great unless some useless ignorant sod refuses to let me through. I will not stand for that at all and will confront the tortoise at the earliest opportunity.

Hate slow play, no need.

I think I am always happy however, in a friendly 4BBB with my mates I ruined myself on the first 3 holes and we were 3 down. The 4th hole I birdied and my PP was telling me how good a birdie it was and it was great we won a hole. The guys we were playing against said that it may put me in a good mood which was invaluable.

Seems I am a grump!

I usually have a good laugh inbetween shots but I am a grumpy sod when it comes to my own game. I find that that for a sadistic reason that it helps me concentrate more. Strange I know ☺

I'm a miserable bugger no matter how i play;)

Same here!
I think I'm better than I am.
It annoys the hell out of me but I can't walk away from it.
I clearly get fun from it but I honestly don't know why!

Total miserable and angry golfer!
.... but love it!!

I'd love to be all zen about it and just enjoy to be out there and play. And on private, pressure free rounds I do and can easily laugh off a bad shot (or two or ten). But I completely deflate under pressure, no matter if it is competition or just some better players watching. Seriously, I can't hit a single decent golf shot anymore. It is hard to enjoy golf when the ball completely refuses to leave the ground. And then I tend to get a tad annoyed with myself. Not the club throwing, muttering and swearing kind of annoyed, more the blinking away tears and making a fist in my pocket kind.

Definitely happy on the course...but I think that's not helping me. I could easily play 18 holes and not speak to anyone if allowed and just be 100% focused on the round. But I don't because I think people think I'm up my own a s s, which I'm not, just desperate to get better.

Might stop caring what people think though....and just keep my head down and focus on the game for the next few rounds. This approach probably won't win me many friends in the club house though..:(

Pretty easy going 98% of the time , accept bad shots easily enough , can slightly get miffed at constant bad bounces tho .. ..

Like to chit chat between shots & be relaxed on the course

Smiling..... definitely smiling, especially with the group of blokes I play Golf with, proper banter and teasing/praise. Top laughs.
