About 1967, all the shipbuilding was on a downer, so I worked in a shop for £4 odds and I gave it all to my mum. Better still I remember going out when I was 18 and getting 5 pints of beer from a 10 bob note......that’s 50p in today’s money. One shilling and 9 pence a pint it was...less than 10 pence. 1970 I managed to get in where I am now, my first wage was around £18. 40 odd years later I'm in R&D.

I was on the same when I worked for the SS. And I use the term 'worked' very loosely.

YTS in 1987, £27 a week I think.
Had a great laugh at that place though even though I was mainly tea boy/stood watching and learning.

First full time job was as a "skin runner" in a sausage factory somewhere around 1970. I think I earned just under £7.00 a week.

Best thing was the parties... Halloween, Xmas, valentines, you name it. I was about 17 and from a small village and working in Edinburger. The married women were the worst! Hauled into broom cupboards and getting hands shoved down my troosurs!
