Not sure when it was but I guess within the first six months or so. I know it wasn't with my dad so I guess I must have been a junior at Wimbledon Common by then so that would have been around 1977 aged 11 or so
I feel like I'm missing out on these threads because I honestly can't remember when I broke any barriers or even what year my best ever round was.
I have a trophy for placing in a div2 comp and one for placing in a div1 comp so I can tell roughly when I went from one to the other but apart from that not a scooby.
I broke a hundred for the first time a couple of weeks back. It's only taken 11 months..... *Sigh* I was normally between 102-106, but had landed on the ton a couple of times also.
I'd taken the afternoon off work and shot down the club with a mate. Millionaire's golf. Round 50 on the front 9, after having stared off with a double, double, treble, treble, double - then bang! Birdie, and i'm on fire. Parred and (mostly) bogeyed my way round the remaining holes for a 98.
Was over the moon, it felt like a huge weight off my shoulders. I was really looking forward to my next round a couple of days later, but got absolutely hammered the night before and ended up in triple figures again.
First time was the morning I got my standard grade results through. I didn't play golf really so it meant nothing to me.
Since taking golf up properly last summer the only rounds ive set targets for are when I'm playing a course for the first time as my local course is a par 65 and not a very difficult one so breaking 100 isn't an acheivement.
Took me until a wet and windy day in November, 25th to be exact, when I shot 98 at Bonnyton in Eaglesham. That included a lost ball, a drop, 30mph gusting winds and using a fairway mat for the first time on a couple of holes. Might sound daft considering I shot +26 but I felt like I played really well.
Next time I played a new course, Callander Golf Club,I broke 90 which also happened to be my first competition.
