Hi All,

when did you get your first hc? How long had you been playing for? I started playing golf last winter, took about 15 lesson, a lot of practice ground and range and decided to take mine in March after having played only 4 rounds. It resulted in a 22. Now that I play 2-3 times a week I've noticed that I tend to play better than my hc most of the times and would like to have another go at it.

How often do you update yours? My goal for this year was to get a hc that allows me to play in Crans Montana (36) because I'm going there in August and being new to golf I was worried it would have taken ages to get it.

If you play in the weekly competitions it will come done (or go up) automatically. Having a handicap and not playing in qualifying competitions results in a non accurate handicap.

I had about 10 yrs away from the game and last June/July
I decided to get back into it. After having a custom fitting
at Callaway I purchased a new set of Diablo Edges.

I got my 1st HC(23) last August and my target was to shave
my HC down by 5. I now am currently at 19 and on target.

:D

Crans has to be one of my favourites places in the world all be it a tad expensive.

When we last visited my wife's handicap was 29 so no problems. August will be busy and you'll be put in a fourball if you're just a 2. The Jack Nicklaus course is a good test of golf too

Got mine last March and started on 28 after 3 horrible cards - could've waited and got lower but wanted it official as soon as I could I so put them in. I'd probably been playing for a year or so before that. Last year's aim was to get down to 22 by the end of October and I managed to get down to 21 with plenty of time to spare. I've changed courses recently and am still recovering from an injury, so this year will undoubtedly be a lot tougher, so I've not set a target other than getting back into playing as much as possible and getting to know as many members as possible. So far, so good and any reduction in h/c will be a nice bonus!

I have been playing about 8 years but only seriously for a maybe 18 months. I got my first handicap at the end of last summer and it was and is 19. I was overjoyed with it at the time and kinda disgusted with it now. This post reminded me how pleased I was with it and its something I am going to try and remember a little more.

I played a bit as a kid, stopped for 7 years, started again march 2010 and got 17 after a month or two. It was clearly wrong as I won 2 of my 1st 3 comps

:D every time I play a qualifying comp. You can't just choose to update it.

I'd been playing 10yrs before I got a proper h'cap in 2006, it was 9. Now trying to get back to it.

Started hacking around last summer then got the bug and took lessons during the autumn. Joined a club for this year and just got my 3 (sadly rather poor) cards in last week, had the HowDidiDo email confirmation this week.

Looking forward to being able to enter next week's comp and aim for my first cut!

I got mine about a year after starting, when I joined a club.

If you are a member of a club and play in qualifying comps, you don't need to "update" it, it looks after itself.

Then again, I have to hand in supplementary cards now and again, as the club completely ignores the cards I hand in.

I actually managed to play a Saturday the other day. Shame really, as for some reason, no-one got adjusted despite being a qualifier.

Got my 1st card signed today, been playing 2 months, I didn't play great, I shot 101, but I really want my handicap before winter sets in.

Started playing in April 2010.

Played the first 3 comps that I could, one was the week I started, got my handicap after a month (28) and now trying to whittle it down.

Got my handicap on the 15th Sept with a handicap of 26, played in a comp same day, hit 2 over my handicap but came 4th in my Division so he cut me by 3 shots. Down to 23 and played in a comp on sunday hit 1 under my handicap with a 92 so presume i will now be off 22.6?
