Your careers/jobs

Scientist here, not great pay but I love my job and the hours are good. Work is flexible so I usually work 8-4. Back last year when I was a member of a club I could be on the first tee at 4.30, play 9 holes then pick the wife up from work at 7.30 after a quick 9!

I have rarely bought golf stuff, but when I have I saved up for it. Irons and the electric trolley were second hand, do need to get the loft/lie checked soon, everything else was bought new after a few months of saving. I actually saved money specifically over the winter before I took up golf so I could afford the membership and a putter as I did not have one!

I am a full time dad, wife is a nurse in a private home working stupid odd shifts so cant make any plans. I have a degree in conservation/woodland management and hope to take that up in the next year or so when the little one can be farmed out.

As for the golf I only buy second hand suff, I have just changed my whole bag apert from the putter, through selling other stuff on ebay. I play on a 9 hole course 10 mins away when I can some times 4 times a week

Im a Forklift driver in a tea factory and work shifts 6 -2 , 2 -10 so when on earlys I play in the afternoon and lates I play in the mornings. I have to hope that the mid week comps fall on the weeks Im on lates and the Rabbits matches fall on weeks when Im on earlys :).
As for equipment I wait until I see something I want (not nessasary need) on sale. IE my new Ping G15 3 Wood.

Done most things associated with golf. Project managed the build of two new golf courses & clubhouses.
House and two newish cars all paid for, reasonable bit of savings. Got there by being careful and not moving house when prices were high.
Don't spend much as I am a careful buyer.
Love Lord Hanson's comment that 'any fool can sell but it's the person that buys well that decides the fate of a company'.

Yes there are people on here that spend a lot on golf and their equipment but I think you have to keep it in perspective. A pack of fags cost about £7 and a pint of beer is about £3(?) If you smoke 20 a day and have 2 pints every night in the pub, that equates to more than £4,500 a year. Let's be honest, I'm sure there are a few people on here that fall into that category.

But I'm a clean living kinda guy and prefer to spend my dosh on green fees and equipment :D

This has been great hearing from all you guys, and it certainly opens your eyes to the real world, and just seeing how we all afford to play this great game!

I am in IT support and work 12 hour shifts. I work 2 days followed by 2 nights and then 4 days off. Lots of golf in my 4 days off. As for kit, I don't really drink/do pubs etc and this is my only hobby therefore if I want a new sets of clubs or a new bag then to me its justified. Nothing too flashy just good solid kit.

I'm an Air Traffic Controller. This means I work shifts which allows me to get a 5 day membership as often my days off are during the week. Also allows me to avoid the queues in the supermarkets! ;)
