Your bucket list holiday... and no golf

Buccaneers NFL home game
Tampa Bay Lightning game
College football
High school football
Playoff baseball game
And then get to hold the Super Bowl Trophy on a visit to the Bucs' complex

Oh yes I did that in a four-day trip in October 2008 :D

Another shout for Route 66 but in a convertible not a damn motorbike ;)

By far the best place I've visited is Cuba, been three times I love it so much. Havana is just amazing, what a city and the rum is as cheap as you like
Get there before the Yanks knack it all up.

I've always fancied a trip to Japan.
Not the modern Japan, the Japan of hidden pagodas and Samurai warriors.
Failing that, a two week trip to the States, visiting "John Wayne" country, sleeping out under the stars and eating steaks and beans off the old campfire with a mug or two of coffee.
Either of those would do me.

Love going to the US and would love a 2 or 3 month road trip and hopefully cover all the states and major cities.

Australia, NZ and SA also high on my bucket list and if the lions are touring at the same time then all the better.

The Far East also interests, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, unfortunately I don't think I could convince my wife to go but I know she'd love it.

Rome always exceeds my expectations.
Scilly isles are magic.
Fancy a cottage on a deserted beach in the Outer Hebrides

Dont like Japan other than the trains.

We visited them the summer before last. 30 degree heat for all 5 days (we were there in the middle of a heatwave!) and it was absolutely cracking. Fantastic scenery and a really relaxing holiday.

One me and the missus fancy when we retire is to get a motorhome and do all the little states of Europe, and see all there history.

Cross the channel, drive to Andorra, down to the Spanish coast to Gibraltar, then back across to Monaco, round the French and Italian coast then across to San Marino, up to Lichtenstein then Luxembourg on the way back.

With all the wars in Europe over the last 3-400 years, its amazing how these little states have kept their independence, would like to visit and learn more.

No-one say the "what about the Isle of Man".......;)

Vietnam, looks a fantastic place.

Tried to convince my missus but she is having none of it.

Of the places I have been to, I loved Mauritius and I loved Thailand. Would head back to either in a heartbeat. Would love to follow the Lions around Australia or do the same thing for the Ashes. Would love to go back to San Fransisco then head out into the wine regions for a few weeks. Would also love to go bear spotting

What would your bucket list holiday be?

We've got the opportunity early March to, almost, pick the holiday of a life time. On the list for us;

1) Florida fly drive for 3 weeks.
2) California/Vegas flydrive.
3) Indian Ocean island, Seychelles or Maldives.
4) Sri Lanka.
3) China - Great Wall & Yangste cruise.

Mrs Hobbit isn't to fussed about the U.S. coz they shoot people, but I'm hoping. My second choice would be a two centre, one week in Sri Lanka and one week in the Seychelles.

Thoughts...?

Agree with your wife on avoiding the US so the two centre would be my choice

Seychelles I'm told is freakin expensive (some of the guys here have popped over for a week away) so go all-inclusive

... or pop over here & under the pretext of something or other we could get a mornings golf in! :D

p.s March is still cyclone season in the Indian ocean so while not that dangerous if taking precautions, they can turn the weather poor for a couple of days if one happens to come over (no bad direct hits for about a decade now & very early warning system gives several days notice)

Gib's well worth a visit. Went there a couple of years ago. A most bizarre place but well worth it nontheless.

See 2-3 ashes tests in Australia and a bit of travelling round.

.
Id go back on holiday & live In Cairns or Hervey Bay on the East Coast of Oz if i got the chance , its just beautiful over there

Would love to do the Cayman Islands

Went to one of the warm up games of the 2006 Ashes tour in Sydney, great day out ...
Had real funny incident with an old ozzie bloke , hes sat dowwn beside me and said hello etc , then said

are ye poms ready for a bashing to which i asked no are ye Kiwis ready for one .

He looked at me in horror and said im not a Kiwi to which i replyed ok well im not a Pom ..

We had a great laugh as he was shocked to see a paddy at the game , we drank all day and everyone he knew that waked by he called them over to meet the only Irish cricket fan he'd ever met ..

I've been around the world a number of times through work. The places I always love to go back to are San Francisco and Tokyo but one of the problems of doing so much travel around the world for work is that it really puts me off travelling for holiday.

Everywhere I've been, I've always been happy to come back and it makes me appreciate what we have here all the more. The British Isles are a beautiful place. So my bucket list holiday is to throw everything in and retire to a camper van and tour the UK and Ireland. I love the landscapes we have on our doorstep.

When I was younger I passed on the opportunity to travel the length of the trans-siberian railway and live in Mongolia for a bit with a couple of mates. I didn't have enough money but I'll always regret not doing it.

1. Holiday in Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix
2. Visit Australia and see an Ashes Test in person
3. Go to an England World Cup match wherever
4. See the Northern Lights
5. Travel to New Zealand and see Orca's in their natural surroundings, bungee jump at Nevis River, and do this
6. Travel around California, and drive a Muscle car or sports car from LA to Vegas, then watch a live UFC card in Vegas.
7. Visit New York and watch Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden

Not sure how many of them I'll tick off, but got plenty of time to do it all!

In January, for our honeymoon, we went to South Africa on safari then Mauritius. It was an incredible holiday.

My recommendation would therefore be:

Fly to Johannesburg, safari (Sabi Sands is superb) for 4 or 5 days, back to Jo'burg and on to Cape Town (maybe fly to Port Elizabeth and drive to CT from there), then fly to Mauritus for a some R&R. That holiday has got everything.

I've been to both Florida (3 times) and California, and while I enjoyed my time in Florida, I wouldn't recommend it for a 3 week fly drive personally. The scenery is quite bland really, there are no hills at all. California on the other hand is absolutely stunning. I'd be tempted to fly to Seattle and drive down the coast from there to San Francisco (spread over a 5 days to a week), a couple of days there then drive down through Yosemite and Death Valley to Vegas, few nights there, over to LA for a couple of days, and drive back up the coast to San Francisco. That really would be incredible - a lot of driving, but that's not a problem in the US.

I know others that have done the Sri Lanka / Maldives two centre holiday and they've all loved it.

Others that are on my to do list:

Singapore - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Hong Kong.

I'd love to go to Japan. I love Japanese food and it looks like a fascinating place.

Anyone that has Thailand on their list I'd definitely recommend doing it. I did 6 weeks out there in 2012, and it was incredible. Travelled around Phuket, trained for a few weeks at Tiger Muay Thai, went up into the mainland and stayed at an Elephant park, had a few days on Phi-Phi Island and finished off in Bangkok. Bangkok was actually the worst part of the trip. We stayed at the Grand China Princess, and it was okay, but nowhere near as nice as the hotels in Phi Phi, Phuket (Cape Panwa was incredible) and Dubai. Bangkok was also just a bit grimy, and there wasn't a huge amount to do. Would much rather have had a few more days in Phuket, or Dubai, which is still my favourite city in the world, LOVE that place.

The west coast of Ireland is fabulous. I particularly love it down on the Dingle peninsula in county Kerry.
