... Who make a claim for benefits or compensation, because they say they cant walk, bend, work, run etc etc and then get spotted at the gym, shopping, on holidays, gardening etc (basically living a near normal life)

Its not always covert surveillance that catches them out either, sometimes they just post pics of themselves living it large on social media!

You have to feel for the genuine cases that'll no doubt have to jump through extra hoops to get their claims dealt with because of the con artists

The case that always springs to mind when I hear about this sort of thing is that guy from a few years ago. Old boy of over 80 went on Britain's Got Talent doing break dancing, with the back story that he loved going out clubbing and could give the young'uns a run for their money. He made it to the live shows, where it showed him break dancing, spinning around on his back, diving on the ground and all sorts.

Turned out he was claiming some sort of physical disability benefit. The payments were stopped and he was charged with making fraudulent claims.

What a pratt! :D

I’m really glad that firms are fighting back, especially the holiday firms who are sued by people who have posted on face ache how wonderful their holiday was - and then try and blame the solicitors when they are caught out

Liars will always get found out.

If you have messed up, own up to it.

But if you lie to con something or someone, you deserve all that is coming once you get found out.

A lot of people only care about themselves. They don't care that society as a whole suffers when they abuse the system for their own benefit.

You see if all the time in everyday life, and it all adds up to a worst qualify life for all.

Few other examples, people who claim they got sick on holiday to get their full all inclusive refunded, then they put up Facebook pictures of 2 weeks of having a great time.

People call in sick to work, rest of the team got to cover them, and they are out and about enjoying themselves.

I work for an insurance company, there is a massive drive these days to cut down on fraud. It costs the industry millions of pounds a year and it is every one of us that suffers as a result through higher premiums.

I am in the insurance industry, but luckily on the broking side and also in a sector that isn't open to fraud like household and motor

..and that can include delayed appointments when you have to wait for the doctor/consultant/nurse to be finished with the patient before you.
so claim off the person who caused the delay by probably being late in the first place.

Everybody wants something for nothing and assumes its their right to compo or isurance payouts. Its all ballcocks.

My wife is in car insurance, and deals with fraud all the time. Anyone who thinks their piece of industry or insurance isn't open to fraud is a tad naiive:)

when the wife was head of a department she inherited a guy that had been off sick for 16 months, who had moved from Edinburgh with the relocation scheme. They got £20K as a lump some. he worked one week in Inverness the went sick. Reckoned he had stress and agoraphobia. wouldn't see HR or come in for any meetings.

someone looked at his SM and he was out clubbing all over the UK and had multiple holidays to Ibiza and Greece, thousands of bits of evidence and eventually was let got almost 3 years after going off. all the times he was unable to make HR meetings he was abroad clubbing. was on full pay the whole time:eek:

Not defending Benefit Fraud or any other type of fraud, all is wrong, but benefit fraud according to gov figures for 2016/17 cost us £1.9 Billion, just 1.1% of the total bill, unclaimed Benefits was £13 Billion over the same period.
Definitely chase the thieves, but now and again I’d like to see the same effort or publicity put in to finding those who are missing out and in need.

Also worth noteing the HMRC figure over the same period showed they failed to collect £34 Billion in taxes of which £5.4 Billion was attributed to tax evasion.

Lots more genuine, honest people out there than scumbags.

from another website

“Some 3,250 Department for Work and Pensions staff have been specifically investigating benefit fraud, while only 300 HMRC staff have been systematically investigating tax evasion…

“Why have this Government had 10 times more staff dealing often with the poorest in society abusing benefits than with the super-rich evading their taxes?”

Oh where to start. Having worked in coal mining I have seen both sides.

Fraud. A guy who claimed his back had gone, he had Drs and consultants pushing for him to finish with ill health. Lost 90 % of his claim a month before he was due to be paid up because he was filmed teaching his sons football team how to do overhead kicks. He was not happy.
A guy who had his foot crushed underground who could not walk more than 50 yards. Was filmed playing 18 holes of golf whilst carrying his clubs. The final nail was when he took a massive divot, walked 10 yd, picked it up and stamped it back into place with his crushed foot. ( gotta admire his etiquette ). They reckon he went ballistic when the solicitor showed him the footage. Cost him a fortune.
Non fraud, I have seen people die with dust on the lungs, people who can hardly walk with dust. Yet the system could hardly be harder to claim, and I am not just on about from the DWP or the DHSS. Mining companies fighting tooth and nail to get claims reduced. Knees and hips replaced before there time. Backs pinned and men walking like cripples. COPD. Vibration white finger, claw hand, deafness. And am sure ave missed some out. Plus put on that the average life expectancy of a miner is lower than Joe publics. Yup miners have had more than there fair share of claims. Plus then chuck in successive governments robbing of miners pensions that dwarfs what maxwell and Green have taken. Well it's fair to say that Tashyboy gets a bit emotional.
Away from my personal experiences, which is where my views come from, what really grips my poo is we now have a second generation of people who are more than happy to survive by living on benefits and have no intentions of working.

I was fully in agreement with your post Tash me man until the last sentence, its the system and breakdown in society that has allowed that to happen, the problem should of been stopped with the initial generation, instead they targeted the weak and genuinely ill.
Also recently we’ve had the Duke of Westminster pass away, one of the richest men in the UK (were talking billions) before he died he put all his money in trust funds for his eldest son to inherit, the son is now one of the richest people in the UK and paid next to nowt in inheritance tax because of the legal loopholes used by his father.
That has lost the country millions in tax, but as its not illegal it makes it ok, morally it absolutely stinks.

Couldnt agree with you more. But me last sentance was in agreement with slabs initial post that some folk are getting benefits when they could be working. Re the DOW and his estate paying no tax. It reminds me of Kante who has just signed a new contract with Chelsea. He will be paying more tax on his contract than both amazon and starbucks. Hows that right.

That’s the difference between legal/illegal and having some morales.
