Whilst it's not my top ranked course (that would be Carnoustie) I'd have to opt for the Gary Player G & CC in SunCity, S.A.

A. It's always gonna be sunny. I'm getting fed up with Scottish weather.
B. It's great fun. Long holes, short holes, island greens, trees and views.
C. Turf and greens that make golfing a pleasure
D. Amazing wildlife
E. Lots of visitors from all over the world to pair up with.

Only played it twice and can still remember every hole 3 years later. Always a sign of a good course. Here are some photos I took.

I could quite happily be eaten by a crocodile whilst lining up a putt here!

If it's money no object - Augusta .

If it's a course I've played & could afford (at a push :D) - The Monty at Celtic Manor.

If it's a course I've played, Montrose Medal - I never tire of getting the chance to nip up for a game.

If money/location was no object, then the South Course at Torrey Pines where they had the US Open last year...

JF.

Whilst I agree with you about the beauty of the course at Sun City. I can't help but wonder how green the course is, and how barran the surrounding countryside is. It must cost a fortune to keep that lot like that.

I guess that if I played there, I really wouldn't care, it is marvellous after all. But having been a dedicated capitalist all my life, and now so disallusioned with it, I can't help but wonder.

Sorry, the ramblings of yet another redundant drunk. This hasn't really added to the thread has it!!

My last game would have to be The Old Course as I never tire of playing it and seeing as I'm going to die after it I would enjoy the grand feeling you get as you walk onto the last green,in fact can I nip up to the Dunvegan after I sink my last putt for a pint, fag and a look at Sheena the owners tidy arse before I pop my clogs??!!

I see what you're getting at about how barren the surrounding land at Sun City was, HH, but in fact this was simply the result of a major bush fire only a month or so before these photos. Apparently quite a few elephants in the neighbouring Pilansberg nature reserve were killed in the fire.

Bizarrely the burnt earth pretty much stopped exactly where the fairways started. The scrub/rough was full of charred golf balls! All I can say is that it was the most fun I've ever had on a golf course. I'm guessing that the surroundings will have recovered by now and look spectacular.

I'm with Birdieman as I would choose Kingsbarns, but as it is closed for 6 months of the year, I would probably choose Cruden Bay as my links course, and Gleneagles Queens Course as my favourite inland course (Wth Murrayshall/Lynedoch a close second)

I have played very few courses compared to most, and no courses of real notable quality- Only my home club (Gog Magog) which hosts open qualifying and has hosted brabazon trophy etc. This would definitely be the club I choose though as I don't think it is right to choose one i have never played even if I know I would love it (e.g carnoustie , st. Andrews, wentworth). Which course I would choose (two V. good 18 hole layouts :D ) I don't know but I played my first 18 holes here and love it enough to be content with playing my last here as well. Great variety of holes and everything you could want in a club- the only gripe is the condition of either course is not great at the moment but that is probably similar to quite a few others. In the summer though it is simply beautiful on a good day, and I have faith in the greenkeepers to make it like this again by summer this year.

I'm more than happy playing my course for the rest of my life, but if I had to pick another it would be another links, so I'll opt for The Old Course.

The Dunvegan you say dodger eh?

Choice between Old Course and carnoustie at the moment though I do have a fondness for woodhall spa.

Woodhall Spa Hotchkin gets my vote. Only problem is that it is in the middle of nowhere, and if I am going to spend my life playing it, I need a few more amenities near by. Like a B&Q.

Good question. But isn't that like getting married!!!

TBH, I don't really know.

I would like to think that my game would get better over time, and I could take on more challenging courses than I'm capable of at the moment, and enjoy them.

A popular phrase or saying, including the words fish and sea spring to mind. :D
I loved this comment, especially the bit about getting married. :D I sometimes feel I'm playing the same ''track'' over and over again. Getting back to golf, I'd play Ferndown every day for the rest of my life.
