Their gear always seems really expensive compared to other brands, especially the set of irons in this months GM £999. How can they justify that sort of price and why is it so expensive compared to other brands. How many Pro`s actually use Yonex gear?

Monty and Ishikawa.

Monty has dabbled quite a bit with other makes, including Mizuno irons.

Yonex has always been expensive, and they were one of the first brands to use a lot of graphite shafts in irons. The stuff is made from high quality components, if you like that sort of thing.

I thought they were decently priced I saw one of their drivers on ag the other day for 80 quid, and a set of irons for 200, clearly I missed the 1000 pound irons...

Hi all,

I think i can shed some light on this...

Firstly, Yonex is a high-technology company that invest alot of money into the R&D of their product. Their game improvement gear has always been very good because of this investment into technology to help performance - of course, that doesn't come cheap. Also, the components used by Yonex are expensive. They would be a top shaft company in their own right and their shafts are all tested individually which is something that adds time and cost to the production. Also, Japanese forging is renowned as being superb and it is expensive to do it properly.

It's also worth mentioning that Yonex is massive in Japan. Sponsoring Ryo Ishikawa makes them a really iconic brand over there. From our experience, the Japanese really buy into high-tec, high cost golf gear. The Yonex Ezone irons that you are referring to definitely falls into this bracket and I predict would be a big seller over there. However, they are also launching another batch of Ezone gear - not as high-tec and definitely not as expensive. This is aimed more at the European market. I can't say much about it yet as there is an embargo but we have just reviewed it all and it's good stuff that's quite a bit less expensive.

I hope that sheds some light on this.

Thanks,

Neil
