Would you join a "goat track" just to get your handicap????

In your situation I wouldn't rejoin, although as someone else mentioned I'd look for a nice muni close by or something like that rather than join a not so good 9-holer that isn't very close.

Trouble is, we don't have any "muni's" around here. We have two nice courses in Bexhill, Highwoods and Cooden Beach. Both are expensive and only Highwoods offers the "Fairways" membership that I am on at the moment.
Sedlescombe is fairly close, but looking at their website, full membership is £775.00 a year. They offer "Flexi" membership where I can buy "units" to use as my green fee.
£200.00 will buy me 100 units, and a game of golf at week-ends would cost me 10 units. So a round is costing me £20.00 in effect. Their website doesn't state whether this would enable me to take part in competitions or receive an official handicap though. I could make a phone call to find out I guess. But as I've shown above, breaking down my costs at Highwoods sees it working out at £22.00 per round. So it's only £2.00 a round more to play a much better course.
I guess my biggest problem is my preference to play with my mates at week-ends rather than play in club competitions.
If I made a determined effort this year to play in more comps I would feel that I am getting my monies worth I suppose.
But I have been paying £30.00 a month by standing order these past few months and due to one thing or another (weather mostly) I haven't set foot on the course since the middle of October! That's November-March costing me £150.00 for absolutely zilch!

I guess Seaford's too far and bit dear as well isn't it?
Had a couple of "Tours" down the a few years back - lovely course.

If you play most of your golf "away" then get a handicap the cheapest way and use the money saved from subs to finance those away days - that's what I'd do.

As I said way back on page 1, the Sedlescombe flexi membership gives you full membership rights, and you can carry remaining points over membership years:)

Love playing at Cooden Beach.

I played the Cooden Beach bowl a few times, but always managed to balls it up on Saturday after a good session Friday night!!! :o :D

Cooden is a very nice course, great to play it on a nice calm summers evening but a right bugger when the wind is up. And have you ever played a tougher opening hole?????
Very expensive, and very snobby.
I don't think they'd take kindly to me being a member there if I birdied the last and shouted "'ave it" or "suck that" as the ball dropped..........
The green is a little too close to the clubhouse

Agree with the wind!!!!

1st time I played we went off the 10th and I had to line up 30 yards left into the O.O.B!!!!

Never noticed it being that snobby, but then again I was probably still too hung over :D

That's a bugger of a hole as well!!
Fairly easy par 5 off the whites, but you play it as a 4 off of the yellows and you won't see many people get on there for two.
And when the wind is howling off the sea, you can quite easily boomerang one into the pampas grass down the right hand side, even aiming 30 yards out to the left.
I play there quite often, and it's always in reasonable condition. But as I say, I prefer a flat calm day/evening. Take an anchor with you at all other times
;)

Must try and sort out a forum meet down there in the Summer. Very enjoyable and I know the 'pro so he might cut us a deal. They take 2fore1 vouchers too!!
;)

Have a problem almost like yours..

At this time of year my course is closed alot and then if it opens we are on temp greens..

But other courses in my area not of the same standard are open all year around with full greens.

Price wise they are about the same tho but reading your topic here its made me think about me rejoining again this year. Would i be better playing on a course thats all open and full greens or stick to what i got..
