It's funny but I was talking to my pro about this a couple of weeks back. He was saying pretty much what is said here, that better players are more likely to fear a par 3 to a par 5 as there is less room for error. I was telling him how I was the opposite and really feared par 5s as I just get intimidated by the length. I feel much more relaxed hitting into a par 3, so as a result, I hit the ball better probably because I'm not trying to hit it hard.
I like the par 3's on our course; not too long (all 150-180) but if you miss the green it is hard to get up and down.
We have a lot of long 4's (400 yard+) and 3 short ones. Having to play some of the long ones like short par 5's at the moment but the short ones are yielding up pars and the odd birdie.
Par 5's are my bug bear at the moment. 2 of them, not long but not reachable. Somehow struggling to make par let alone birdie at either. Hate making 6 on a par 5, especially if it's because of 3 putting from nowhere or missing the green with a wedge.
