It is and that word isnt allowed on the forum. (left just this once for reference).
LOL, no it isn't, it's meant as a derogatory word right enough, but there's certainly nothing religious about it, any more than "Tim" which references an early 20th century gang, or "Arabs", or "Jambos", or indeed "Sheep Shaggers". Whataboutery may designate it sectarian, but it's a fact there's nothing sectarian about it. Don't be fooled by whataboutery brandy ;)

It certainly isn't sectarianism in a religious sense. But it is political sectarianism. As I'm sure you're aware, sectarianism doesn't have to be religious.

Noone mentioned religious sectarianism. As Bluewolf said, it is more political sectarianism but it does get brushed with religious intent over here too by those who want to sling insults.

Not in Scottish footballing circles it's not.Outside the bubble of The OF, supporters refer to them as that, Celtc as tims,Hearts of gunts,Arabs as arabs, the sheep (are on fire) and being a hibby, I'm a junkie.

I do understand why it may be moderated on a board not soley dedicated to the wonderful world of the spl, though.

I'm sorry guys, but this is utter drivel. The only sectariaism in Scottish football is the religious kind perpetrated by the green and blue halves of Glasgow.

What you're describing is football rivalry/nicknames. Or are you suggesting that every fan in the country should talk like someone out of a Pathe newsreel?

It's funny, I was going to post the other day, asking why it is that Scottish teams - and this seems to be unique to Scotland - are more often than not referred to by their nicknames, rather than their actual club names. You'd never hear anyone in England talking about the Red Devils v The Trotters, but when the Dons play the Arabs, that is without doubt what the majority of fans will call either side.

Anyway if the above two posts are the reason why you are not allowed to call The Rangers "Huns", then I fear you both need to do some swotting up on Scottish football.

Yeah, you're right Hugh. But I just can't be bothered swotting up on minority sports.

By the way, the term Hun is directly derived from a political link that Rangers fans are perceived to have. Just because the term has evolved into a nickname doesn't mean that its derivation is meaningless. Anyway, I'm not getting any further involved as its quite obvious that certain people are looking to turn this into another "rangers" thread, and that will be tedious in the extreme. Have away at it between yerselves.

FWIW, and as I've posted before, I consider the term "hun" to be abusive.

As for the knicknames theory - Aberdeen fans call themselves "Dons", Dundee utd "Arabs", Hearts "Jambos", Celtic "Bhoys" etc. Rangers fans do not call themselves "Huns".

I would agree, it is meant to ab derogatory, and I wasn;t comparing other clubs nicknames to that of Sevco, it is not however sectarian, that is just whataboutery.

The only ones turning this thread away from the fat pap n my OP, are chaps like your good self, who admit to no knowledge of our game, and even worse, no interest, yet feel they have to comment, and comment as if they are knowledgeable on the matter, despite aforementioned lack of interest and knowledge? I find that bizzare.

I have many Sevco supporting friends all of whom love to refer to themselves as the term used.

But there are a minority who cry wolf at being referred to as this. Precious soles it would seem.

My pals see it as a term of endearment rather than abuse and that is the way it should be but you can't help the fact that there are many precious wee soles who don't like it.

Luckily for me my old man doesn't expect me to call him anything other than a diet one.;)

Anyhow,it seems we are all agreed that Jabba is a jobby.

And slightly going off the thread after tonight's announcement from Jabba's new employers it is a shame Scottish Football did not take the opportunity to jettison Sevco out of Scottish Football for good back in the summer.

You could not make it up.Green will stop at nothing to pander to the knuckledraggers and flog the shares. This simply cannot be beneficial to them at all bar winding up the element of support he is trying to pander to.

Is it any wonder they are the most despised club up here?

Crazy.:p:p

how unusual, the forum's rabid spouting rubbish - no doubt with saliva trickling down his chin
