Came across the worst behaviour in my 15 years of golf.

Group in front of me were playing a Winter Knockout Fourballs match. On 13th hole, the heavens opened. Freezing, hail and rain and strong wind. As they finished 13th, and walked to 14th, a group also finished the 4th, and tried to cut in on the match by racing to the 14th tee ahead of them. Obviously, the players in the match told them they shouldn't do that (obviously). The group trying to cut in took exception, and started threatening the players in the match and there was a big slanting match.

Anyway, the group that tried to.cut in walked up the side of the 14th, then played 15th ahead of the match. Once the match got to 15th, they witnessed the cutting in group deliberately take huge divots out off the 15th green all around the hole.

I was behind the match, and they told me what went on as I approached 15th green. True enough, 4 huge divots all the way around the circumference of the hole. Delightful people.

Anyone else ever come across these nightmare type scenarios that ruin your course? I know another course in the county where someone deliberately poured chemicals on 9 of their greens, meaning they were on 9 winter greens for about 2 years while they completely replaced them.

That's criminal damage I take it they were not members? We had a spate of youths coursing damage to our greens on a regular basis. The police knew who it was but had no evidence so we provided some for them via hidden cameras. Don't know any deliberate damage being done by anyone playing the course members or not.

Not sure of the full details yet, so don't know if they are members. But, they were recognised and identified, so I will await to see if there is any action.

That is appalling and never heard of anything like that being done by people who actually play golf. Normally hear about it from someone who has been let go from the club or something.

Crazy crazy stuff and I hope they are dealt with accordingly. Should be banned from every club in the surrounding area, well as far as physically possible to spread the knowledge

My dads club couple years ago had an incident where 2 members took it upon themselves to go and chop down a couple trees on their 16th hole because they were annoyed they kept hitting their tee shots into them. The biggest joke of the whole situation was that the trees were 50yards off line anyway and they only got a 30day ban for willfully damaging course because they were A team players and mates of the captain he didn't want them missing games so effectively upset the whole club who wanted them gone.

Come October/November, members at that club should go and cut down their most problematic trees. A 30 day ban over winter seems a penalty worth paying

If they are members then I'd be making sure every club in a wide radius knew what did so they weren't welcome anywhere and as they seem to be known anyway I'd be making it formal with the police.

I totally agree that’s what should happen, but legally it would leave a club in very difficult standing if it can’t be proven in a court of law.

Very sad to think people who play this sport could do something like this.

I agree up to a point but surely word of mouth would at least make it harder for them to get on at other clubs either as a member or green fee. Clubs do have the option who they let on or as members. Would seem a very sad situation if they get away with it and then able to play elsewhere without a problem

I would get a few of the lads to go and thrash their gardens!!
But seriously.
Sue them for the damage.
Some sort of identification will be asked for soon in case stuff like this happens.

Playing in a comp once we got to the 12th green and someone had stolen the turf off the green.
The whole green was just soil.
Someone’s got a nice garden .

You must have been the slow group holding everyone up as I can’t imagine they’d manage to do that in the 8 mins between 4 balls ?

In my local area [ 7 or 8 bars ] publicans run a Pub Watch system, if someone gets barred from 1 pub they are automatically barred from all of the other participating pubs, with just a phone call, facebook or email.
Could possibly work in golf clubs too.
