Whatever happened to the 'Lynx' goal celebration (both arms held aloft as if your armpits stink so bad your hands are trying to escape)?

And all those long range bullets with a ball that seemed to weigh twice as much as the modern effort - and certainly didn't beat the keeper by swerving about in the air like a demented balloon. Happy days.

This is the first world cup I remember. But didn't realise Holland beat Argentina and Brazil en route. What a travesty!

Great montage!

Hadn't seen Cruyff's dummy cross and drag through his legs performed by anyone prior to this....simply genius.

Still can't believe the Dutch didn't win it.

Bit young for 74 but I remember 1978 fiasco well. 1982 was far away the best tournament for me. Football results seemed life and death issues when you are 12, just isn't the same when you get older.

I know Brazil didn't win in 82 but they played arguably the best football ever seen, even with the worlds worst keeper.

11 best Brazil goals from 82, enjoy -

That Dutch side were far and away the best on the planet for about 6 years. Always puzzling that they didn't sweep all before them.
BTW France )gog I hate having to say this) were superb for a period until Schumacher took the wind out of their sales. I remember watching that match in a bar in Corfu.... happy days

Oh what a night that was....

Patrick Battiston heading for a one on one. The German goalkeeper Schumacher could see that Battiston would have a clear scoring opportunity. Without hesitation German keeper Schumacher ran out of this area and launched himself at Battiston, the Frenchmen just had enough time to lift the ball over the keeper before being assaulted. Battiston was knocked unconscious by the challenge, lost two teeth and broke three ribs! the match referee didn’t even book Schumacher for the tackle!

I remember watching it with my Dad.

If you can remember the celebrations after 1977 when we took Wembley home you will realise that we couldn't survive winning the world cup so we just enjoy glorious failure.
Could do with the Scots coming to visit again - it might improve the Wembley pitch :D

If it had happened today, he would have had such a loooong ban and probably a private charge brought against him OR maybe not if Herr Blatter had anything to do with it.
