If anyone is planning a game at Woodhall Spa, brush up on your bunker skills first :)

This is Jan at the 12th. She hit it to 4 feet and knocked it in. A great up and down :D

I also got up and down from that bunker.

Sadly, there were others where I wasn't so good.

Still shot my handicap though. Nice course. One of my top 3.

8 cat 1 golfers from Southport and Ainsdale used to go to Woodhall every year for 36 holes on the Hotchkin. We mainly used to play Holinwell (another great course) the day before and 1 year played Forest Pines.

Always used to get cracking weather as well, we used to do 3 of 4 trips a year, ahhh those were the days.Without a doubt the woodhall trip was the highlight.

Love the course, great test off the backs.

We also had a money game round the chipping course in the trees. My short game would be mustard if I had that to go round every day.

Great Memories Bob!!

Always got cracking weather?
Yesterday, the rain started on the 6th. lasted until the 11th by which time everything was soaked including the fairways and bunkers.
Coming down the 18th, there were large areas of white.....Hailstones Brrrrr.
Glad I brought back some good memories :)

Yes it was. We took 40 guys from my club, and most couldn't reach the fairways off the tee. Had to laugh at some though. Pot bunker in the heather, just short of the fairway, how cruel is that for the guys who can't make the carry?

Got through to the EGU gold medal there one year. All paid for and 2 rounds of golf with the accomodation in the old RAF mess hotel. Magnificent stuff by the egu. I cant remember any specific holes just an idea that it was a lovely place to play golf

Loved this course. I only played it once but I'm desperate to go back. Had one of those old airforce bombers fly overhead and it was incredible. My buddy tried to hit it with a pitching wedge!

When I played it last I was standing on the top with one foot down the bunker side bank, stupidly saying to myself...."no no no, dont roll in,must get this played quick!" and did that funny hastey walk almost on tip toe so as not to disturb it :o :D

That's not a bunker, it's a quarry

You want to see some of the bunkers at the Oxfordshire. I swear I saw a Camel Train meandering through one of them last time I was there.

Woodhall is a wonderful course, have played it for 20+ years and it gets better and better. Playing there 26th June, really looking forward to it. The bunker on the left of the 4th and the ones around the 5th par 3 are scarey. We used to play Hollingwell or Ganton the day before Woodhall but it really got to much(getting old), 72 holes consentrating around these courses the brain goes into meltdown.

The Bracken course there is really good as well but gets overlooked because of the more famous Hotchkin. During the English amateur c'ship last year the qualifying rounds to get into the matchplay phase were held over both courses and the scoring was higher on the Bracken.

Bob,

Is Campbell Elliot still the professional down there? A fellow Barrhead boy?
