Avoid the bunkers as much as humanly possible on the Hotchkin, hope the greens aren’t fast and the pins are sensible on the Bracken.
Enjoy, it’s a great experience.

Take a picnic hamper just in case you end up in a bunker. It could be weeks before you’re rescued.

The Hotchkin is my fav course in the U.K.

In addition to the bunker problem, you need to be a long driver off the back tees. The heather is punitive.

Bucket and spade is a must

The course is great because it forces you to think both off the tee and on approach shots. It’s a lot of fun though two friends I took to play it both hated it and not going back ever

Don’t underestimate heather too, you can get lucky and have a good lie in it but it can also break your wrists if you are not so lucky.

I’d imagine it’d had some rain now, so might be not as bouncy/hard as a few weeks back.

If you go in the front bunker on the par 3 5th just play 3 off the tee. Played with a mate who couldn’t get it out, sideways was into another bunker, backwards was a tough shot into heather. You need a lot of swing speed to get it high enough, he didn’t have enough - he plays off +2.

Hit an iron off the 15th tee not worth trying to go for the green surrounded by that many bunkers. Oh and avoid the ones in the fairway on the 9th!

I certainly think that it is beyond the capability of some golfers even off the yellows, especially if there is a stiff cold wind.

Which one the 15th or 9th.

15th you don’t need driver even if you can’t reach due to the number of bunkers lining the fairway as for the 9th I never said it was the tee shot

I was referring to the course as a whole rather than a specific hole - I was responding to your ‘overrated’ comment.

Hotchkin is very tough but you can play it sensibly avoiding the bunkers is key to scoring well round there ,

The Bracken is a good second course , very different , tricky sloping greens

A fair one! I stand by my comment. I’ve played it 3 times and always come away thinking meh!

It’s always been in unbelievable condition when I’ve played it and each time I’ve played it I’ve hit the ball well. But the overall course just feels overrated and underwhelming for what’s it’s meant to be for me.

I should add I also feel like the Bracken is pretty average and has some very dull holes!

Practice facilities though are superb

I haven't played it since before Covid...had some great days out there...need to make the effort to play it again.

Maybe sign up for their Spring Open if they still do it.
