Morning all. Indulge me if you will. I’m a sucker for WITB stuff because I like golf clubs, and worse, I like buying more golf clubs. Many of which I sell shortly after.

So, what’s in the bag and what’s your WHS? Yes, I know the two don’t necessarily correlate but I’m curious anyway.

For those who don’t give a toss, don’t worry yourself with this thread but feel free to take your disdain to the next one.

Callaway Mavrik Max 3 Wood 13.5’
Callaway Rogue 4 Wood 17’
Callaway X2 Hot Hybrids 19’, 22’
Callaway Big Bertha CF19 6-AW
Cleveland CBX2 54’
Titleist Vokey SM6 58’
Cleveland Frontline 8.0 Putter

WHS -10.4

The latest tool which may or may not make it in too the illustrious company above is a TaylorMade Mini 300 Driver which I’ll be trying out over the next few weeks.

So, over to you guys…

I'd planned to replace the above with a later generation of Ping Gs by now (I like Ping). But just after I bought this lot my finances got much lower and club prices got much higher. Oh well. There's nothing wrong with the clubs and I think they're a good match for my skill level so there's no need to change really.

V commendable scoring with such a cheap set

Do you think you could get to scratch if you splurged on a fitted set of irons, driver and putter?

They would not have been cheap when they were brand new. ;)
Lowest I ever got was 2.8 which was a long time ago. That would probably be lower under new system.
I was probably playing to a standard of 2.2 in today's money as that would give a playing handicap of 3 on most courses.
I might be capable of getting below 3.5 next year.
Spending £3,000 in the hope of getting lower than 3 - can't see much point in that at my age - and what a waste of time and money if it didn't work.
£3,000 to knock 0.5 off your handicap index? I'll pass.

As I've mentioned in another thread, the Cobras are an experiment, mainly a graphite shaft one. The shafg experiment is working, the club head isn't so that may change soon
The hybrids are getting a bit long in the tooth as is the Driver.
Having a love/hate relationship with the 4w right now so most of the bag could change soon.
Apart from the wedges and putter.......

Ping G410 SFT driver. About three years old now, still love it.
Cobra F9 five wood & seven wood. I've had these a couple of years.
Callaway Rogue ST Max 5 hybrid. Most recent purchase, bought to match my irons.
Callaway Rogue ST Max irons 6 to PW. Also a recent purchase.
Cleveland wedges: RTX 2.0 46°, RTX-3 50° and RTX 2.0 in 56°. The 50° is the longest-serving club in the bag now, must have been there at least 5 years. Next purchase should probably be an actual set of wedges but I'm not in a rush at all.
Callaway SureOut 60°. I'm pretty trash in bunkers, especially when sand varies by course and even from hole to hole sometimes. This club makes it so much easier.
Evnroll ER3 Wingblade. Wanted an Evnroll for years until I finally got it a year ago. Just a superb putter.

Handicap index is 13.7 now. I should have got to 12 this year really but didn't.

My WITB changes every week, this week's set has been:
  • Harold Bird & Son laminated 1 wood, 12° loft, circa 1975
  • MacGregor VIP persimmon 3 wood, 15° loft, 1970s
  • Mizuno TP-9 3 to SW, circa 1988
  • John Letters Golden Goose, circa 1970s
I enjoy all my clubs for various reasons, the TP-9s are the most modern set of irons I play and are a wing back style blade.
They also had one of the best adverts I've ever seen for an iron, although it might be considered less than PC these days.
