You can do it.

If you have a loan, you can take out another loan to pay your exisitng loan. Not necessarily a smart idea though, depending on your circumstances.

To be honest the US was never going to default, this was just internal politics between the left and the right.

I realised many years ago that America can do pretty much what it likes, when it likes and to whom it likes as it appears to be beyond reproach.

An interesting thought/debate is 'What would happen to the world as we know it if America was declared bankrupt?'
