I have just this morning accepted a new job. Been feeling really anxious for a few days weighing things up as although it's not the first time I've moved, it is way different moving a family than just moving yourself.

Heading down to East Lothian which of course is fabulous golf country - been looking at some golf websites and a huge range of courses to choose from, all in close proximity.

Quite excited about being able to play a 10, 11 or 12 month golf season as opposed to the 5 month to 6 months we get up here.

Any Edinburgh/Lothian based golfers on here recommend any affordable clubs that still have a good challenging track and a friendly club atmos to join?
Quite fancy links after years of playing inland tracks. Muirfield looks nice (in my dreams! )

Probably won't join a club initially in case the job doesn't work out, play a few different courses, but hopefully in time will join somewhere.

Will have to deal with wind so finally anyone tell me how to play a knock down shot again? :o ;)

Hit the ball above the middle, it wont get above 4 foot off the deck - it works for me anyway!

Move the ball up in your stance, open the face and give it laldy :D
Good luck with the new job btw.

Certainly a nice part of the country to move to. It's a good place to bring up the family and of course it's got lots of golf courses on your doorstep.

You'll be spoilt for choice as an itinerant golfer and when you make your mind up on what you're looking for in a club, then you'll have a fair choice to make. One thing though, it will, most probably, be more expensive that Ballater ;)

On the bright side, you'll even get the chance to meet the Edinburgh based guys for a game now and then rather than being located in deepest darkest Aberdeenshire.

im from east lothian and have played all golf courses loads of times.

best links courses to join would be: Craigielaw g.c. or Dunbar g.c. Dunbar is a bit tougher ,but both are championship courses

im a member at haddington G.C. which is an inland course but is in great condition and has a good reputation. also very cheap

You buggers... they are trying to trick you!

Tee it up as high as possible and lean back :D

Best of luck with your new life!

Good luck with the new job. I guess making sure the family is settled (schools etc) and getting to grips with the new role come before finding a new golfing home (just) but enjoy the chance to go out and about trying them all out
