Base layer manufacturers see golfers coming...
I bought 3 unbranded base layers 5 years ago for £3.99 each and if the "name" ones costing 10 times as much are even twice as good I'll be very surprised.
I'm never cold on the course..

i had an under armour cold climate base layer for a birthday present and its definitely a must im my winter golf wardrobe ............. but the other neat bit of kit i have got into is a snood, i noticed all the young un's at our club wearing them and by jove their onto something!! keeps your neck nice and toasty https://www.adidas.co.uk/neck-warmer/DN1873.html?cm_mmc=AdieSEM_PLA_Google-_-Shopping|Adidas|Generic|Medium-_-golf-_-PRODUCT_GROUP&cm_mmca1=UK&cm_mmca2=&ds_agid=58700004366616452&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqMePw-_g3gIVRIjVCh3DDw6iEAQYAiABEgJdxPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Yeah, I recently bought a Nike snood. I've been wearing it outside of golf as well, when I leave for work in the mornings - I realised I don't like scarves due to all the extra superfluous material you have to do something with, so a snood is ideal!

what a waste of money, you could have got a cheap beanie hat and cut the top of or the leg of an old pair of Trousers :ROFLMAO:
Christ I didn't think of that. Where were you when I needed you?

Be careful... I think Patrick must be meaning to dig out some 90’s chinos with his recommendation of the leg of an old pair of trousers; not a chance that the current fashion for athletic/skinny cut trews would fit over my big head!

better still a chav track suite leg;)

You don't have to splash out to protect yourself from the elements.

I get my base layers from Aldi or Lidl and they keep me nice and warm through the winter. My best top for keeping out the wind is a Sunderland heavy duty wind cheater that must be 10 years old and is still what I use when it gets chilly. A truly outstanding piece of kit.
I have Under Armour winter trousers (£16.99 from TK Maxx) and on the feet I have two pairs of waterproof socks bought from Aldi and a pair of Footjoy Dryjoys bought from ebay for £40 which had been used once AND came with an M&S shoe bag c/w polishing kit.
On the head, I wear a peaked woolly hat as the low winter sun gets in my eyes and that little peak actually provides a lot of protection from the glare.
I have wet-grip gloves for when it rains and SunIce Gore-Tex waterproofs bought cheap from Sports Direct when they priced them wrong (£80 for the top, £60 for the trousers).

Oh, and a flask of rusty nail. ;)

Most people spend a lot on cold weather gear because of the logo on it and because of advertising.

It's all about how you layer up effectively rather than the logo on the top. I mentioned earlier in the thread I never wear trousers in the winter, old school pair of long John's, trackie bottoms & waterproof trousers keeps the lower half toastie. Top half a thin base layer under a polo shirt with a jumper on top, if it gets really cold gillet over those or waterproof jacket. Only golf specific clothing I have is my waterproofs everything else from primark, asda or the like. Doesn't need to be expensive to keep you warm.

Good point well made. I have some M&S long johns, a few under armours acquired in sales, unbranded polo necks from Edinburgh Woollen Mill and club Jumpers or a windproof jumper. Add a woollen jumper and some mittens and I'm good to go. I did find these https://britwear.co.uk/collections/...t-colour-baselayer-turtleneck-long-sleeve-top but not sure how the sizes come up. As they are offering L-XL they might come up large and the S-M sound very small. I've not ordered one yet but tempted

For the really cold days and tomorrow is looking like one I bring out my old Tog 24 base layer , 25 years old and still going strong, polo shirt , wooly jumper and windproof top . Use ski mitts and dont bother with a glove .
