Winter clothing

Under Armour cold gear compression top, (got all mine on sale), decent polo, pure new wool jumper, waterproof jacket.. Thats enough layers for me:)
Usually I got my stuff on sale in golf shops(not AG)

This. Defo go for a wool jumper. So much better than the man made fibre stuff. Base layer, polo or roll neck, wool jumper and if windy a wind shell. I have an Adidas one that is really thin, but wind and shower proof, perfect. If you need a bit more coverage, Gavin G beanie and mittens. I have found keeping your hands warm helps massively in keeping your whole body warm. For feet, I bought thermal walking boot socks, they are padded and toasty warm (Decathlon).

You need a base layer / compression top.

You can pretty much wear your normal stuff on top. No eed to get led a merry dance buying the latest 'winter gear', gilet, stormwear, etc unless you have the dough and fancy it.

I'd like a nice down type coat but haven't found one that works for me yet, most aren't waterproof, so stick with base layer and standard golf clobber.

Amazing how much nonsense the golf industry pumps at you to get you to buy the latest stuff.

Mid layer

Don't believe the marketing guff
100%. Last winter I went down to SportsDirect and bought a thick Sondico tight baselayer, long-sleeved with a high-ish neck on it. Wear this under my polo + regular Ping golf jumper and I'm fine. Add in beanie hat, warm glove for right hand between shots and optional snood for your neck and you're good to go. This so much more preferable than wearing a thick jacket over the top which I think restricts movement and makes swinging a club a bit more difficult.

I tend to go with a base layer, polo top and then one of 5 Primark gilets I got for the cost of one branded one.

Have bought a few UA jackets recently though as they were on sale, and fit better than Primark equivalents.

Why buy 5 gillets? lol. One for every day of the week!

I’ve used the tight base layers in the past and whilst warm and stretchy they just felt a little bit odd. Had a eureka moment two years ago when I went skiing ... m 7
7 S thermal base layer, stretchy but “fitted’ not compression. It’s perfect under a normal polo top , not restrictive at all and matching base layer trousers for when it’s really cold .

Perfect

I got some merino baselayers in the sales last year and find them better than the synthetic compression tops.

Sports pursuit have some alpaca stuff on sale and I'm tempted to try one of those too.

I think I'll give the thermal base layers a try this year. I have 2 compression base layers from Footjoy and Nike but I just don't like the material.

i had an under armour cold climate base layer for a birthday present and its definitely a must im my winter golf wardrobe ............. but the other neat bit of kit i have got into is a snood, i noticed all the young un's at our club wearing them and by jove their onto something!! keeps your neck nice and toasty https://www.adidas.co.uk/neck-warme...VRIjVCh3DDw6iEAQYAiABEgJdxPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have a Galvin Green snood and it’s one of the best bits of clothing I have ever bought! Definitely recommend one.
