Nothing major, just Captains Charity Day at our place. Shot a +6 78 for 41 points. No blobs. Came back down from 11 to 10 (9.6) so am almost at single figures which has been the goal since I started playing. Set it as a goal at the beginning of the season along with another one I scrubbed off yesterday which was to have a round without 3 putting.
Have put a lot of time in on the practice ground/range in last month or so and have played some really good golf in parts, I was confident it would all click at some point and yesterday it did. Have been so confident to hit anything in the bag. Our course doesn't really lend it's self to one shot shape and some horrific scores have forced me to practice shaping the ball both ways. I have really enjoyed learning to fade the ball having honed a draw over the past few years. I'm at a point where I feel pretty confident I can choose a shot shape and this has helped so much to navigate my way around.
The biggest improvement lately though, has been with the putter. I fitted a Winn, mid size grip and it has transformed my game on the green. Holing so much more from inside 10 foot.
Anyway, after the round we sat discussing the course record that was broken last week, which was a -7 65. And having been playing my best golf, I wondered how I would get any lower. This guy took 13 less shots to get round and apparently lipped out for 3 birdies so could have been -10. Anyway, I concluded that lessons would be my way forward and would probably be the only way I would reach cat 1 any time soon.
So, I wondered, does anyone else have lessons when all is well, or is it just when the wheel falls off?
