it aint half hot mum star Windsor Davis has died aged 88, very good series that im sure all those of a certain generation watched back in the day ,
RIP Windsor ,hopefully not too hot for where you re now.

I wonder if they will repeat any episodes as a tribute? I have a memory of reading that one of the Indian tea men was actually a white man with heavy make up. Not sure if true but if it is it may not pass current thinking and reach bbc1. A shame if so, different times, different thinking.

Windsor Davis had excellent comic timing and that role was perfect for him.

Michael Bates
He was actually born in India and was an officer in the Ghurkas.

Aged about 14 , my mum and dad surprised myself and Imurg with a trip to the theatre in Aylesbury to see Windsor Davies and Don Estelle who were touring a show.

It was 43 years ago but I seem to remember my sides hurting with laughter.

“Sing Lofty”

Proper character , Stand Down Soldier

Did a disco with a mate for the cast after the last it ain’t half hot mum. The jungle scenes were filmed on Hankley Common. Apart from Gloria they were all very nice guys. He was just like his character in the show. God I feel old.

I think the tea waller was Peter Sallis who was later on Last of the simmer wine.

Saw him in panto in Wimbledon with Don Estelle just after "Whispering Grass" and the mum taking me and her son got a box and I remember him chucking a sweet up to me. Loved him in it Ain't Half Hot but didn't like Never The Twain
