While it’s great news that CS got the Scottish open I’m wondering if the location could see a reduction in crowd numbers. Will spectators from the Leeds or Manchester area who in the past travelled to Loch Lomond go up to Inverness. What do you guys from further south think.

I personally think it really depends on the entry.

Does it matter? - the less crowds the less grandstands and tents and more of the course we'll see.
Won't be as many people as LL but there will be enough and will hopefully draw some top players because it's links golf before the Open and because the tournament fund is still very big.
I like the Scottish Open moving around a bit, LL wasn't great for east or north Scotland public. Gleneagles was a good venue for everyone.

Heaven forbid folk will have to travel from the central belt or beyond,I don't think anyone will turn up at the Open this year if that's the case....you sound like a member of the Tartan Army when it's announced one of the games is going to be played in Aberdeen Tommo! ;)

I do think they will get good crowds, look at what turned up for the Walker Cup up there and no doubt this will be repeated this year in Aberdeen.....there are actually folk living up there and regardless of how many it will still be more than turns up and 90% of the other European Tour events through the season.

I think they will get reasonable crowds it depends how much they are going to charge to get in. Shells Wonderful World of Golf had a match at the Carnegie Club in the 90s and they got good crowds then and that's another 50 miles further north.

I'm not so sure it matters where it is as long as the course and facilities are up to it.

I don't know Castle Stewart and the area but I have to admit I think Loch Lomond is a boring course. Only watched on TV tho!

Good luck to Castle Stewart.

The good thing about CS is that there are quite a lot of decent courses in a 30 mile vacinity for those looking to make a week of it, both playing and spectating so you arnt just heading up for one purpose.

Shut up, I'm not on about the central belt, it's further south. I’m not wishing doom and gloom, It’s just that some punters who were willing stretch their travel distance to LL, will they do the same with the extra 3 hours.

The open is the open, people will go wherever the venue.

I know that they lost a few spectators due to the time taken to make the decision. A few people from my club, my brother included, were planning on going to the Scottish Open with the tour tickets they were offered after the rained off Ryder Cup Friday. They all eventually changed plans due to the fact that they did not know where it was going to be held as they needed to book hotels and sort rounds of golf in the area.

I've been to LL the last few years as my sister works for Barclays and got free tickets. It was just do-able as a day trip but CS is going to be too far for a day.
Shame as I always looked forward to it.
Does anybody know if it's still sponsored by Barclays?
