When watching golf on tv and the cameras are facing "down the line" it often appears when they hit the ball, it appears to start off well to the right.

Now I know they have not sliced it obviously, but that's what it looks like, I can only assume they are playing a draw.

So my question......is this an optical illusion due to camera angles or does the ball start out really that far to the right?

Cheers
Andy

I have noticed a lot playing the fade lately or as the yanks call it a 'cut', it gave me a lot more confidence as my natural shot is a fade. They can obviously shape the ball either way and depending on what obstacles they want to carry or where they want to put the ball for their next shot is how they choose which to use.

I'd always just assumed the pros shape the ball far more than the rest of us and most prefer hit the draw so that's why it starts out way off to the right?

I assumed it was an optical illusion, whenever they show shots with shot tracker system thingy it never turns that much. except for bubba's

It's only because youre watching in 2d. If you watched in 3d or were standing behind the player it wouldnt look like that.

The picture can only take so much information and the ball has to go somewhere, hence why it looks like a massive slice on a normal tv. watched from the head on cam it doesnt look as bad.

i think a lot of camera's aren't exactly down the line

if the camera is behind the player and a little to the right it would probably look like the balls goes more to the right

If the camera lense is not exactly inline with the shot. It will appear to go left or right as it tracks across the lense. So yes it is a optical effect.

it use to show you on sky sports the ball flight they showed this with a yellow line and the pros do hit big draws and cuts. well controlled but then again thats why they are pro's
