Why should 5 day members pay less

I don't know of any clubs up here that have 5 day membership, mind you its cheap enought not to matter really.

If any did closer to home i would prob take a 5 day as well somewhere close just for the odd midweek game.

And this is one of the reasons I'm not a member at a club!

Why pay a shedload of cash for golf for, really one day a week? It's highly unlikely I would play both Sat & Sun, so the £750 (as per the above example) is waaaay too much.

A course near me is now offering once a month comps for non members on a weekend, which may increase during the summer. Ideal. No need for expensive fees just for comp play!

I would remove the category altogether. I'd reduce the 7 day membership. The 5 dayers get far too much bang for their membership. Also, it was noted at mine last year that the difference in cost between 5 and 7 days was growing as each year they were implementing a % increase cost in membership, so they have started to try to reduce that by increasing the 5 day costs, and also the seniors cost too in an attempt to reduce the differential.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with clubs offering a 5 day or off peak membership package. Abolish the 5 day membership and a lot of members could potentially leave; the result being a course that sits virtually empty for a considerable portion of the week but becomes even busier at weekends due to those who do upgrade their membership. Whether or not the 'leavers' and 'upgraders' even out revenue would remain to be seen.

There is also the issue of less revenue on food and drink during weekdays. If you are paying clubhouse staff to do very little during the week, do you then lay off staff and provide just a hot drink machine? This provides the potential to drive away even more members.

Putting aside the issue of 7 day members not being able to play every day due to work commitments, they still have the freedom of choice to choose their package, unlike the lack of parity in subs (at some clubs) due to age and gender.

I would love a 2 day membership as that is all I use. I do believe that 5-day members generally have a very good deal - often only around 65% of the full price and many play every day. I think it should be nearer to 75%-80% and that numbers should be limited.

Why should 5 day members get a discount on their subs?

The 5 Day Membership is a throw back to the good old days when clubs had waiting lists and as a way to get into the club earlier, you could take up the 5 day membership. You would then get the full membership at a later date.

Nowadays it's not the same, very few clubs have waiting lists and those that do can probably rely on the full membership to keep the wolf from the door.

the clubs around here that still have 5 day membership cater for the older golfer or those on shifts etc. Still seems to be a place for it IMO. Mind you, you do miss out on the big club competitions which are usually all played at weekends.

Even as a 5 dayer I can play in any weekend comp as long as I pay the reduced green fee....
Not the case at all clubs though..

Because it would be daft to offer 5 day memberships if they were the same price a s 7 day memberships their would be no point in them would there

How many 7 dayers play after work in the Summer?
Ok, not viable in the Winter but a 7dayer has the potential to play every day.
Many Full Members play both days at the weekend and although many Midweek members play 3-5 times a week, many will only get out twice.....

I'm eyeing up next Friday as the 1st day of the year where real golf might possible after work as soon as we pass that mark I'm on to getting 4-5 visits to the course per week!

So personally I don't have a problem with anybody paying less to restrict themselves to only weekdays!

5 day ers can't play weekends at our club so only get 11 medals a year but I don't see a problem with that and as I work shifts and weekends full membership wouldn't be worth it

My club still takes 5 day memberships as a route into full membership.
When somebody with 7 day membership leaves then the next eligible 5 day member is offered full 7 day playing rights.
They do it to keep the numbers down else come the competition on Saturday there wouldn't be enough tee times available.

Why should they play less? - because they can't play in any of the worthwhile competitions which surely is the whole point in playing in the first place.

Guy who worked beside me(retired a few months ago) was a 5 day member at his local as was his mates ,they did not want to play competitions just a casual round with friends. Our shift is 6pm-2am so works for us that we prefer to play during the week in the morning.

As many stated above, very few clubs (especially round Manchester) could risk having no 5 days membership as they'd lose a big portion of their members to another local course and 7 day members would end up leaving because their annual subs have doubled! You'd end up with one very expensive but very quiet golf course.
