Give me a shout when you do elsham Bob, if Im free I would love to join you, haven't played there for years. :)

That sounds a great idea fella's, I havent played Elsham for years, I remember it being very nice.

Need a week or 2 to get thru a House move on the 10th, but before end of Sept would be a great idea, even Forest Pines which is well worth a visit.

Look forward to it. :D

Bobmac, I have already posted on here that I live at a million miles an hour.

If only my pro was as acomodating as you. He is more likely to play 18 miserable holes with you, and then say if you took a 45 minute lesson I could cure that.

I could not agree more with Bob's assertion that too many shun lessons - a few tips really do help. I have recently had a series of lessons given to me as a present. One of the best presents I have had. Every lesson has given me something to work on and I believe moved me forward. Changing in-grained bad habits can be difficult - but part of the fun of playing golf at hcp level is the tinkering we do to get better. I feel that a decent teacher can help you avoid tinkering in the dark!

I think at the end of the day its all about getting the right teacher to suit you. If you want to keep it simple you don't need a guy who's going to dissect the swing into each component and be too technical. A good pro should be able to tailor his approach to the pupil and teach with the aid of drils in a way that can be practiced and remembered.

Once you have found someone to trust in I highly recommend lessons. Even if you only get one at the start of each season it'll give your swing an MOT and may help get you off to a flyer.

Key words "a good pro" in my local area I can honestly say I wouldn't give ANY of them my money! (Worthing, West Sussex)

I've tried a fair few of them and have never found 1 yet that doesn't just spout any trash just to keep you coming back and spending more money with them.

The only 1 I would happily give my money to was called Carl and has moved out of the area to my knowledge. He came strolling over to my bay on the driving range when I was practising hitting the 60 yard and 100 yard nets and said "Pop your wood headcovers under your armpits and hit a few. Your body and arms aren't working together correctly and this will give you the correct feel".

He then proceeded to stand there with me and work on my trajectory control as he had 15 minutes spare until his next pupil was due.

I took his number and tried to give him a call a few weeks later only to get "number not in use" come up. Went and asked at the range what happened to him and they said something about family issues and they'd excused him working his notice.

If I could find a pro who was as likeable and had such a good teaching manner I would book a lesson a fortnight in advance on a yearly basis.

I'll admit I am hyper-critical of coaching as I have received coaching all through my sporting life (both free of charge and chargeable) but I do find the vast majority of golf pros I see more as failed players who teach because they have to in order to make a living.

As a 10 handicapper I would love to find a pro that I trust so if anybody knows of one in my area please speak up.

There are good and bad people in all jobs.
Dont let one bad experience put you off lessons for good.

The puttings a whole let better thanks Bob!

First pro I went for lessons with used to disappear for 5-10 minutes every half hour lesson.

New guy is much better I feel we are making progress, in truth I don't practice his tips as much as I should.

Just had a free 18 hole round with him at a decent course round here so that was nice.He even suggested I go for a video lesson with the pro at the course we were playing to help me along.

He's also going to do me a very good price on a new driver (matching the internet) when I want one.

Glad to hear it. :)
The big question is......are you still swaying on your backswing?
BTW, if you had a haircut and got rid of that beard, you might be able sto see the ball better ;)
