I have been looking at replacing my wedge set up as of late and i have noticed an annoying trend. Some manufacturers don't make a 50deg option! I was looking at Nike VR and TaylorMade TP Z wedges in particular, but i have seen other types with the same restrictive choice, why do you think this is? My Nike irons come with a 45deg PW,so the fact they don't make a matching gap wedge seems a bit daft! I am aware the VR irons had a set that included a 50deg,but its not the same as the proper VR wedge! Aaaaaaargh! Discuss please forum buddies! :D

Do they do a 49* or a 51* wedge????

You are pretty damn good if you can tell the difference between that 1* of loft.

You can always get it bent to 50* if you are that ccurate anyway.

Ping make nice wedges, but i like to use the same make in my wedge set up.Took me ages to get my Nike SV in 50,seems you could only buy one in the states! More Nike oddness!

Junior,i am poor enough as it is,would much rather buy a 50 off the shelf! I feel that the XTP might be the way to go for my gap wedge.

Cheers Junior,I have been scouring ebay all week! Was intending to get Mizuno MP-T10 wedges, but if Oddsocks swaps his TM TP Z lob for my 3 wood,I would probably stick to the TaylorMades!

In fact i give up,i am going with Mizuno and that is that! I cant believe that some manufacturers give such poor choices in loft, booooo! Rant over :D

Can't really go wrong with the Mizuno wedges but just in case you can't get what you want, and it doesn't have to be exactly 50 degrees, have you thought about Cleveland. You can still get hold of the classic 588s in 49 and 51 degree. Usually a few good uns on ebay.

Wedge lofts are getting stronger all the time. The new Cleveland CG16 wedge is 44 degrees - that's my 9 iron. And it's not rare to find PWs at 43 or 42 either.
Even Mizuno who, until recently, have had a PW at 47-48 degrees are getting stronger. THey have to. Most people are obsessed by distance. If you hit the CG16 PW 120 yards you'll expect to hit the JPX PW the same so the lofts get stronger. 45 is fairly normal these days for a wedge. Certainly in the GI class. Even "players" clubs like the i15/X-22Tour have a wedge at 46.

Scary stuff really, why bother naming a club a "9" or an "8"

Best just to say "Time to use the 43 iron" or "Time to use the 39 iron"

Soon we can complain about our hands stinging from thinning our 21 iron

Cheers lads,I agree lofts are going mental! I have considered Clevelands also, but like the look of Mizuno the best. Was at the range today and i am still hitting my Nike SVs well,so I am in no rush! Will wait till I have enough funds, cheers!
