Who Is NO1!!!

With the present No1 Cheetah Woods off the scene for a while and foreseeable future.

Who currently in your opinion is the worlds most feared player presently swinging a club in anger???

Think some people are not understanding the question?

I think Ogilvy is very underrated, great player and is my choice at the moment

Stenson has the potential to be sooo GOOOODDD as well IMHO.

No, don't know about the others but I understood alright, I just didn't give the answer you were looking for.

Ohh, that's a tough one. From the comfort of my settee, I'd say the likes of Mickelson/Westwood/Stenson/Casey/Ogilvy ought to scare anyone over 4 rounds.
On a matchplay moment, things might be different. I doubt many players would like to take on Furyk/Garcia/Stricker.....even McIlroy could easily destroy the best ever on a given day.

Mickelson...great finish to 2009 and if you listen to "Butch" on Sky last weekend he's been working hard at his game and in the gym in the off season.

Sergio will be lucky to stay in the top 10.

I would go for Sergio to come on to his game this year but Rory wont be far behind. Westwood hd a great finish to season last year and will be interseting to see if he can keep it up into the beginning of this year. As for Furyk and Mickelson i dont think furyks got the bottle and phil plays far too much to the crowd to be taken seriously in fact i would go as far as to say he acts like a total idiot
Interesting point Screwback, The thing is he acts like that when he's firing on all cylinders and the crowd love it as they believe they have a connection and are helping him. He certainly would be a popular No1. I wonder how TW will react to the crowd when he returns? ;)

If I were a pro, ( lmao ), and I made it to the final 9 of a tournament in contention ( roflmao ,)and Tiger wasn't breathing over my shoulder, there isn't another pro alive today that would intimidate me in the slightest.

If you're good enough to get into that position, why be scared of second raters?

Not saying I wouldn't let the occasion get to me, or bottle it, but that wouldn't be because Phil M was 1 shot behind me.

YE Yang must be the scary one surely? He is the only one of them who has stared down Tiger down the final stretch of a major. The rest are just pussies.

I think this begs the question "Who is contending to win most often?"

Please excuse the pun but no-one is "up there" as often as Tiger. Whenever he's in the field he contends and usually ends up top 5, often on a bad week. In his absence on the European Tour the major contender is usually Westwood. He's consistently at the top of the board and a serial winner too.

On the PGA Tour I'd have to say Big Phil. He seems to win the biggies. Everyone else blows hot and cold although I'm seeing a lot of consistency, without wins, from Harrington. He is definitely to be feared.

If the number 1 stands down for a while it stands to reason the player to fear the most has to be the current number 2 Phil (do you have that in a B cup) Mickleson. However the gap between him and Tiger is IMO massive.

... Phil (do you have that in a B cup) Mickleson....

LMAO

I'd like it to be Sergio, just becauase I've always had high hopes for him. But, I think there's a good chance it could be one of many, my other choices, in no particular order are GeoffOg, Westy, The Fish and RoryMac.

Having said that, the position is based on points accumulated, so until someone overtakes him, it's still Tigger.

I would go for Sergio .......

That's a wild card Screwback!!

I just think if he comes on to his putting he can set the world alight as his iron play/ long game is second only to tiger.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out!!!

I agree. I watched him on the range then followed him around the Race To Dubai course before Christmas and his ball striking is absolutely beautiful. Long irons were magnificent with that gorgeous trajectory of streaking away dead straight and low then ballooning up as it neared the target for a soft landing - wish I could do that!

On that day, Els and Westwood's ball striking came close though...

Lefty and Stricker if they want to go and get it. I'm not convinced about the Europeans (I really want to be). I would have thought that Paddy would be really well prepared, and he was ready last time Tiger took a break???

Slightly off topic. but do you guys think tigers absence will make watching golf more enjoyable ?

With so many players so closely matched now it's going to make tournaments more closely contested. Tighter finishes. More tension. Will make for great watching.

tbh, when 99% of the time when tiger was in full flow it was almost a fore-drawn conclusion what was going to happen. Great to just watch the talent of the man but kind of kills the tension of 2-3 players coming down the stretch in close contention each with a chance of the win. Knowing one great shot or one bad shot and it's as good as over for them.

well it would if it were available more widely.

the most obvious improvement should be that the tv coverage should start following the leading golfers in each field.

then again, possibly the best 9-holes viewing of last year was the tiger-phil head-to-head
