I got Arccos sensors & link last June for Fathers day. Been interesting seeing the stats, but not sure they tell me anything significant I don't already know... I know at the end of a round when driving has been good, or putting has been poor. It does however allow me to know just how bad some parts have been, eg number of putts. What I have seen is an upward trend in handicap since July last year. Maybe not linked, but can't help but think it could be that its breaking my concentration on the round to some extent (checking shots recorded, amending putts, adding penalties etc etc)

As I get closer to renewal in June, I am toying with going back to just using Hole19 on my Apple Watch for the GPS data (or for £40 add the premium features). Arccos is about £130 renewal now I think? Or, I might pull the trigger on a Garmin watch.

Just wondering how many people continue with Arccos versus dropping it come the renewal stage.

Cheers

My mate got them with some new Ping Irons, handicap climbed up. Now has an App on his Apple Watch and it continues to climb.

My observation is that his pace of play slowed with both systems, and he is pain in the arse on the green wandering about getting distances to the flag.

Our playing group consider that part of his problems have been due to technology being a distraction.

I also know others who have had Arccos and none of them have renewed.

checking shots recorded, amending putts, adding penalties etc et
Clearly that is a distraction but you also don’t have to do it during the round. I used to do my “editing” after the round at home as a part of the review (used both Arcos and GameGolf in the past).

Having said that their yearly subs is a robbery 🙃 I’d look at ShotScope instead (no sub).

Personally, I’m using GolfShot app for scoring + some tracked shots to get on the course distances. I did like the GameGolf/Arcos ability to capture the whole round, especially when playing an away course, so I can go back to it and check later how I played it :)

Can't comment on arccos but I have the Garmin tags and an Epix pro watch. It's a great bit of kit and no ongoing costs once purchased

I used to love using Game Golf before it folded/stopped working. I like tracking stats but Arcoss (or any subscription based service) is too expensive for me.

I opted for a Garmin s60 watch and whilst it does give some basic stats it is limited and the app is hardly cutting edge. I have toyed with getting a few CT10 sensors to compensate for the short game shortcomings with just the watch, but have read that putting isn't really adequately captured as, with a lot of such devices, the pin position needs to be captured.

If I was changing again now, I would probably look at Shotscope as that does seem to cover all the areas that other systems don't.

I used Arccos briefly but their mapping of my course is awful....despite multiple errors being pointed out to them on several occasions, they've never resolved them, rendering the system pretty much useless.

I've used Game Golf and ShotScope in the past and have found that I got too wrapped up in trying to hit a good shot in order to generate good data, rather than hitting a good shot for the good of my score!!!

I used game golf, then arccos, on to shotscope and now with Garmin all are a distraction but I found arccos to be the most distracting shotscope and Garmin I would say are less, probably more to do with the watch although both can miss some shots but very easy to edit as you walk garmin being the easiest to navigate as you go,
The stats in arccos are probably I little more detailed and I did like the app but at the time I used it it was phone in your pocket and that was a big no for me also the £99 sub was hard to justify

thanks all - appreciate the input

I think what I need is yardages, and while the stats are nice, if I didn't have them I wouldn't miss them. When I previously used Hole 19, I had the free app for yardages. I did upgrade for a year to premium (£40?) which let you track whether drive went left / fairway / right, was it a GIR, number of putts. Could have added club yardages for each shot but never bothered with that.

Will see how it goes, but I am not sure Arccos will stay when it comes to renewal time...

The problem with shot tracker yardage is that it's total and not carry.
Total isn't useless but carry is way more important and the trackers just can't give you it.
There are so many variables that influence total distance and while you can average things out and subtract a bit to give you your carry it won't be accurate enough to be valid.

I use Premium Hole19. As you say, it doesn't cost much, and it tells me how many fairways and greens I hit, where I missed, and how many putts, as well as yardages to every part of the course. For me that's plenty, but I hardly use the stats for anything other than a point of interest when I look back. I don't know what extra stats you get with Arcos, but it all depends if you really use those stats for anything. If you're painstakingly recording every shot for no real purpose, then no, I can't really see the point of that. In Hole19 it's just a quick flick of a few buttons after every green.

I've used ShotScope for about 3 years now, does everything Arccos does without the ridiculous yearly subscription. I had the V3 watch but the strap kept failing and now I use the H4 (little handheld device) which I keep in my pocket and use manual putting mode with it so I just click a button when getting ready to putt and when getting the ball out the hole. All other shots I just tap my pocket with the end of my club to get it to register, works really well.

ShotScope have really improved their UI over the last few years, it's easy to edit a round on the PC and the stats they give are excellent in diagnosing what I need to improve on. If you liked Arccos I'd definitely recommend ShotScope as a replacement.

I have actually just swapped from Garmin watch to Apple Watch with arcoss.

Main reason for me is, I always forget to swap my apple watch to my Garmin before I leave.

Did try a couple of free apps, but so many of them had such terrible distances on my course. Most where out by a good 10-15 yards compared to the Garmin and my range finder.

The stats will be interesting to see once they normalise. However I always thought my driving was an issue, and my irons were a strong point. Turns out I actually gain strokes on a 5hcap with both distance and accuracy on driver. But I massively lose on my approach game. Over 2 strokes between 125-149 yards.

I do however wish they had a monthly option.

Is there any coincidence that I stopped Arcoss in the winter when we were down to 15 holes while the bunkers were being done and I am now much lower? Tempted to use it now as see where I am off my current mark so I have some data to base practice around but not sure now

It sounds like you should leave it in the past. You were guilty of over thinking things in the past. I'd just keep it simple and keep working on the Eureka swing, its obviously working for you

I tend to agree. I was simply interested to benchmark a few rounds now while I am playing reasonably consistently and see how my stats add up to the figures in the system and what my strokes gained will be. Think I am already settled it won't be an each and every round thing
