Who has a 3 Iron in the bag?

I carry a 3 iron as three of our par 3s can be stretched to over 200 yards and, if the wind is against, I need a 3 iron to get up.

It was out of my bag for some years but I'm now striking it well enough for it to make a comeback.

I have a 3 iron in the bag, it gives me a lower ball flight and a different option off the tee. I have a 2 iron hybrid in there too, took the 60 deg out for it.

My set has a 3 iron and I chop and change between that and a 20° hybrid.

Having said that I've just bought an MP Fli-Hi 3 iron which is getting its first outing tomorrow.

I can hit my AP2 3 iron ok, but I have this weird mental block with it that makes me think I have to smash it to get it in the air, which leads to too many thins.
I think it's probably from hitting 80% balls at the range and only seeing it go as far as my 5 iron.

I've all ways carried a 3 iron in my bag. Hit it high, low, fade and draw and very consistent with it. It's a must for me.

3iron is the first club I hit on the range( well if it works for Tom Watson) fantastic off the tee on any sub 370 par fours leaves a 9 to the green

3 iron for ne every time. Strongest club? Maybe my 5 iron. I love my 3 iron though.
The way I see it, my wedge is only a couple of degrees more than my 9i, my 9i is only a couple of degrees more than my 8i etc etc. Clubs are tools to get a job done, hybrids hit the Ball high and gave an element of forgiveness but compare it to a well struck long iron and the iron wins everytime.

My irons came 5-SW rather than 4-PW like many new sets do nowadays. It also came with a 3H, which is a rediculously easy club to use.

The 3h is 20* and the 5I is 28*, which is too much of a gap

Since then I've added a non matching 4h ( 24* ) which has never felt quite right.

I've recently added a £25 2h at 17* which feels better off the tee than my 4W, although the 4W still wins off the fairway.

If I was buying again, I'd get a 4I definitely, and get a matching 2h and 3h.

I don't understand the need to start playing high/low/draw/fade shots from 210 yards ++ .

Most low handicappers that I've played with are cat 1 because they can get up and down on those long par 4s, not because they can fade a 3I round a tree and land it softly on the green. Get the ball up there near the dance floor, then chip/pitch and one putt.

And for that the hybrid is the perfect club.

My 3i gets chopped and changed with my 60deg wedge depending on the time of year\conditions. This time of year it's usually the 60deg that gets the spot, in the colder wetter months it's th 3i

Normally carry a 17 hybrid then 4 iron although if it windy I will swap out to a MP fli hi 2 iron and 3 iron and drop the 60 wedge. I find I dont really need to hit the 3 iron often enough so would prefer the extra wedge.

I've always used a 3 Iron,and untill a couple of weeks ago i used a 2 Iron as well,although i've now replaced the 2 Iron with a 19* Rescue TP.
What i find puzzling,is people saying they've replaced there 3 Iron with a 19* Hybrid ? I have my Hybrid FCT set at NU,which is square face,and 19 deg,and its very close to my 2 Iron yardage,even though the ball flight is much higher,even setting the club at 20 deg,its still 10-15 yards longer than a well struck 3 Iron.
I remember trying the old Taylor Made Mid TP at aDemo day many years ago,it was 16 Deg,and it was as long as my 3 Wood !!!

i carry one, hit it about the same as any other club in the bag, carry a hybrid aswell though and it goes about the same distance as my 3 iron but with a lot higher flight

3i for me, - cant stand the look of Hybrids anyway.

I have got a 7wood, which I picked up for £15 as an experiment, but of the deck, I'd rather hit a long iron, as I seem to connect with them better.

Played today with +1 & 5h/c boys, and we all hit 2 or 3 irons off the 1st.
I was rather pleased to be not the first to play my second shot

Yes, 3 Iron for me too. Use it a lot off the tee on shortish par 4s. Also good into the wind where a hybrid may stall. Don't like hybrids but do carry one... a 2h to gap fill between 3i and 3w.

Currently 2-PW for me.

Find long irons easier to hit than hybrids, which I can't hit well at all.
