If I'm on the green (1st) and there is a tee box (17th) next to it with players ready to go who goes, do I wait to they tee off or do they wait for me to putt

At or club the Rule is that players that are 'ahead' go first. E.g . if you are on the 6th green and they are on the 7th tee they should go first.

If it is done the other way round then it just delays play for yourself and those both after you and ahead of you as the people behind them will get held up and so on back through the field until it reaches your game

It reduces congestion on the course by getting people off it. So my philosophy is to let the players further round the course get out of the way first. Although some courses have a sign on the tee to let players on a close by green putt out first.

Thanks, I thought that but just making sure, as I was with one and there was 4 ball on the tee box and they just hit while I was lining up my putt, I just waited until they went but wasn't 100% sure if there was a rule

At our club people on the tee have priority at all times mainly as a health and safety thing as it is very narrow in places.
I would have thought the other way would be safer. Let the putters clear the green and get away to a safe area.

Same at our place, tees have priority in a couple of questionable tee box/green positions. I always assumed it was just a general rule in golf, looks like it isn't.

It was done this way so that players are on the look out for people on tees. People on greens are not really in danger, people on adjoining fairways are!

As an aside, I would play from a tee if someone was lining up their putt; I would wait if they were putting.

Clearly in this modern enlightened era there will of course already be someone putting whilst another player is lining up their putt, and everyone will be quickly finishing off their putts asks well, so the total time I would be delayed on the tee would be less than a minute for a 4 ball 🤣
