Who buys a club on looks and hype alone?

im going through that just now, looking to trade up my rusty, i mean trusty Ci7, i agree dont buy this years model buy last year as technology wont have moved that far, i go for how far it goes and if its easy to hit, however i would be aghast if the Cobra AWP were my fave, not sure about the orange grips etc ....

After seeing the Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Fairways on sale in Online Golf for £110 for a matching 3 and 5 wood, (£55 each), and reading the independant reviews all of which were excellent I took the plunge knowing that if I put them on ebay being Callaway I would very likely get my money back.

It's was one of the best buys I've ever made and I wouldn't swap them for any other woods on the market.

If the price is right and you do your research you can get some very good bargains.

i'm in the process of changing my irons and have tried 3 makes up to now as i play ping i tried the i20s first a awesome club, then the wilson staff fg v2 if there is a nicer looking club on the market i haven't seen it then the r11s which were a let down really and didn't live up to the hype going for a demo of the mizuno mp range this week and the latest titleist forged as i will be using whatever club i buy for 5 or so years i think this is the only way to go about it.

Would never buy a club or clubs if I did not like the look of them at the address position. But then they would still have to perform. Looks alone is not everything :blah:

Same here, that said the hype on the white TM drivers put me off them, they don't look good IMO

Definitely not a fan of the hype either...Ill stick with my stealthy looking i15 woods and in fairness no one can accuse me of buying my i10 irons on their looks...
As they say..they arm more like something that you'd find on a welders bench but they are flat out performing well for me the past few rounds.

I'm pleased with the response for what is my first thread on here!!!

I like everyone have thought PHWOR LOOK AT THAT!! (The Cleveland Classic has more wow factor than any white headed club) when seeing a club for the first time. Did that with the original TM Superfast 2 years ago. Knew that it was a club I was going to buy, but tried 6/7 clubs (Ping, Cleveland, Cobra etc) in a few different loft/shift set ups and ended up with the Superfast anyway

Sometimes works the other way also - I went to a Wilson staff and Taylor made demo day at the local range to look at the TM irons.

While waiting for a chance to hit them I had a go with a Wilson Staff driver which felt decent on the first hit. I said 'If I can hit 10 more straight ones like that I will buy it now'

10 screamers later and I was forking out cash. Got rid after about 3 months as I could not hit it straight again - doh. I know it was me and not the club but it just didn't feel right on the course for some reason and switching back to my previous driver of the time I started hitting fairways so it had to go!!

Nope, not me. Just so long as they say "Mizuno" on them ;) :D

I jest, obviously. You have to test clubs before buying them. I didn't do this with my irons as I got a ridiculous deal on them (which I may or may not have told you about ;)) which was too hard to pass up. Luckily they are lovely.

All my other clubs have been bought after demoing them along side other potential candidates. Just so happens the Mizunos performed the best.

I've NEVER understood the number of peolple who pre-order clubs before release date. (See Rocketballz and R11 for that)

They've never even held one or seen how it sits, let alone swung the thing.

At least give it a waggle.
